  • Diversicare of Bessemer Bessemer, Alabama 35020

The facility is old, unclean, stinks. Patients are mistreated, denied meds. The staff doesn't listen to the patients. They run out of the basic sanitary equipment to properly care for patients. Some of the beds are in horrible condition, specifically the pressurized beds. They run out of wipes, gloves. Most of the machines to take patient vitals don't work, or are in poor condition. I would not recommend anyone to this facility. The building is in disrepair, the elevator only works sometimes. Patients are left in the hallways, slumped in wheelchairs. The staff is uncaring, unfriendly, don't have any bedside manner. I was saddened when I visited my relative who was sold a bill of goods, concerning how "wonderful" the facility was…it was not.

I give it one star . It's beautiful and very clean : in fact , the housekeeping staff and the aids were the only compassionate branches of aspire's team .

Our 93 year old father was there after a heart attack ,(despite Aspire and daddy's GP's bad reviews : we were warned !) because we were impressed by the looks of the place. WRONG ! DO NOT be lulled by the glamorous appearance of Aspire !

We are not a demanding or spoiled family , but WE were the ones to bathe him , change soiled 'brief's , clean dried vomit from him and change his sheets . WE were the ones who had to research his meds and find out which one made him violently ill *. WE were the ones who BEGGED to have it stopped , only to have them dose him with it AGAIN in three days. WE were the ones to notice signs of a serious UTI …

Nurses often seemed to take offense when we went to their station asking for help and frequently , help never came.

Bedsores developed , oozed and bled.

    We're lucky he lived .

    * Lasix diuretic removed more fluids (and electrolytes) than he'd taken in , in two days .he was drained almost dry.

I don't care for this place at all. Thanks to them my husband is a type 2 diabetic when he was a type one. The food is no good everyone gets the same thing no matter what condition they have, some of the staff is very rude, the MD there is no help there is a patent there that needs to be in the hospital he won't let her go,the bed my husband had sounded like it was about to fall apart and the so called mattris had lots of holes in it. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there. Also and this is very important they scam the insurance they know one thing but change it so the insurance will keep paying they did my husbands that way he should have came home way sooner but they told the insurance lots of lies just to keep him. He will never go back there. I feel it needs to be closed down. I will quit my job before he goes back there.

Be wise on your nursing home decision that is the one you Love in their care be aware of everything they do at the facility that is going on with your loved one. I was and it is to late for my daughter. If you have to send a loved on to this facility do not miss one day there question every medication and every change in medication question why they do not do therapy on all of their patients question why they will not send you out to your own doctor question question question everything i did but by the time i really started questioning it was to late. Ask if they are using the restroom ask if they are eating and how much ask if the doctor really looked at them and is not just prescribing from what the care givers are telling them make sure of everything

  • St Martin's in the Pines Birmingham, Alabama 35210

Initially I was very pleased with the care my parents received.(They moved there Aug 2010). After my fathers death(Jan 2011) my mom continued to stay there until Nov 14 2013.She took a turn for the worse, she was sent to the ER and St Martins failed to sent a copy of her living will (DNR) and she lived another month being put thru unnecessary treatment. The MD at the hospital discussed her status and she was placed on hospice and was moved to another nursing home and died one month later on Dec 14. ( I was not going to bring her back to St Martins ) Violet (admissions) called me on Nov 15 not even 24hrs after my mom was in CICU and asked what I planned to do about her bed in the cottages. I know their goal is to make money and they made a lot of money from my parents since Aug 2010. I called her a few days later and made her aware of my mom not coming back to their facility and addressed with her my concern about the DNR not being followed, putting my mom thru unnecessary treatment and bills and she said she would talk with administration and has not contacted me since. I have had billing issues this past year and each time I paid by check I wrote a note to Doug(finances) and he never got back with me until after my moms death and I left numerous messages for him to call me. They charge for EVERYTHING! In checking with other nursing homes their daily fees include everything. My mom was charged for the room, incontinent fees, oxygen rental, humidifier, nebulizer set, creams and ointments, syringes ,steri- strips,,telfa pads, etc…..I addressed in notes to Doug and with the staff in care plan meeting the daily fees for incontinent and felt this charge was not correct. My mom would have an occasional accident but was not totally incontinent. I pointed out what 86 year old on diuretics wouldn't ? As an RN I understood why they would put a diaper on her for their convenience but charging her close to 200.00 a month for this was not right. After my moms death Doug finally looked into it and found out that she only had some incontinent episodes and changed the charge code so it was a lesser charge. I am still looking into the fact at some possible billing fraud since my mom was charged for a nebulizer set on several occasions and I talked with the pharmacy that supplies their meds and received a final copy of her bill and no meds were listed on those days that would require a nebulizer along with some other charges that she didn't receive. I can say the nursing staff was kind and caring and really loved my mom. They treated her with respect. Would I use them again…..NO I have been trying to deal with my moms bill for the past year….its not fair to keep a person hanging on when all I did was want to be honest and fair….pay her bills on time… and trying now to come to terms with her death and still trying to get the bill here correct and wondering how much more we will be charged for the ambulance ride and hospital and MD bills due to their failure to send her living will…..

My grandmother has bed sores because the staff are not turning her properly. She has a UTI because they are not cleaning her properly. The administrative staff always seem to be "out to lunch" whenever my mother calls them to discuss my grandmother's care (or lack thereof). The in-house doctor won't allow my grandmother to have the anti-anxiety medicine that she's been on for the last 10 years or so and even though she's been diagnosed with PTSD as a result of a near fatal car wreck, he won't give her anything for that either.

They do not care about patient care. Nurses do all they can but the facility as a whole does not hold patient care at any standard. They have patients that are beyond the facilities means to care for, they do not allot the correct caregivers for certain patients. They allow their staff to be abused by patients with no regard for staff safety.

  • Civic Center Health and Rehabilitation, LLC Birmingham, Alabama 35234

The staff and therapists here are truly amazing. They are very attentive to the needs of the patients and do not loose their cool with the patients. (even the difficult ones.) They really care about the people there and their families. The building is older, but they keep it up, clean it constantly and do a great job keeping it smelling clean! The therapy department works with the patients every day and won't stop until they achieve the goals they set with you in the beginning. Any issues we had were handled immediately and personally by the management there. I would definitely use them for any rehab for my family or anyone else that asked!

On this Election Day it is no wonder why Medicare is going broke. They charm you when they walk you around till convinced good place. Told them wanted short stay for my mama but because she is overweight no one wants to get her out of bed. Then you ask that big physical Therapist and she gets smart mouth with me and mama says nurses do too. Then they laugh when I walk away. You go to that nasty therapy room and it is full of patients but the therapists are just siting around laughing, texting, talking on cell phones, eating and pecking on the computers. Running my Moma's bill up. Then they tell me she needs to stay 100 days to get better? Is there anybody out there reading this that they are just running the bill up on too? Medicare needs to check this.

Very high staff turn over and those hired are very unprofessional and lack professionalism. The facility is very nice in decor; however their are some CNA's and LPN's that really care and work to provide the residents with good care. The are various health issues and the staff gets angry and lie; when you bring forth an issue to them. There are various people (white/yellow hair lady on 1st floor) that doesn't do anything; but walk around with no concept of professionalism.

My mother was here for 4 months for rehab. This place "smells" like poop and urine more often than not. The staff left her in the bed with a wet and messy diaper for hours on more than one occasion. Turning the call light on means nothing to the staff. I have seen the reaction by the staff whenever a call light would come on, and it's not a good reaction. I would like to say that maybe there are too many patients assigned to the nurse/PCA. But more times than not, I would find the staff (3-4 of them) in the "pantry area" sitting on top of the counters just talking and laughing, while there were several lights on where patient's needed their attention. Wipes are furnished by the patient's family, not by the facility, although I got conflicting information from the staff. We witnessed staff (PCA's) taking wipes from one patient's room and using them in another patient's room. They did confirm to me that this is what they do if a patient does not have any in the room and they (PCA) needs them. Nothing was stolen from the room, which is a good comment for them. We finally brought her back home, and she "rehabbed" more in one month with Home Health Care than she did the whole 4 months she was there. Even though we are looking for another Rehab Center since she has just fallen and broken several ribs this weekend, we will not even consider this place. Will drive further to, hopefully, find a better facility. This review is for the Rehab section of the facility only. Did not experience the nursing home side of the facility.

You can receive adequate care for you loved one, but you must visit daily to check on the status of their care. If you are fortunate to be on a hall with a caring CNA you will be pleased, but these are few and far between. Staff turnover level is unacceptable and included all employee levels including physicians, therapists and RN's. We observed many instances of just plain meanness from employees. I cannot recommend this facility to anyone who must make care decisions from only a weekly visit.

  • North Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, LLC Birmingham, Alabama 35217

Unnessary medicine and have hard time getting someone to agree! Medicare please check them out. Think they are running a scam on our insurance and letting my family member fall because of it. He was doing so much better till they talked the doctor into giving him this list!

  • Fair Haven Birmingham, Alabama 35210

I have never desired to work in a nursing home because of my clinical experience i 1987. Last week, I took an assignment as a hospice nurse for Horizon Private Duty Care. I was assigne to one of your clients and from the point of entrance in Fair Haven there was the most kindest lady who greeted me.She gave me directions, and in route there were your staff smiling and they greeted me.I was impressed. When I passgot to the nursing station Nurse Jackie was there.Nurse Jackie and another one of your professional staff members were awesome. They made the days and late evenings shift an experience that is unforgettable. They assisted me without my rrequest, and Nurse Tamara, Mildred, Gia what a team. When I had to step out of the client's room, they were working and as busy as they were I heard the compliments they gave to each other.

What a remarkable staff of professionals who kept their purpose for being there. I rejoice at the attitude of House Supervisor Lois. She was on duty Satueady June 2, 2012. She was suppotive to staff and me. My client expired but she was there everything step of the way. The Hospice Nurse Angela RN and I witnessed a group of people not on task only but they were actively emgaged in what they were doing. I appreciate how this place of care was not noisy. The House Supervisor, the Receptionist,Nurse Jackie, Nurse Tamara, Gia, Social Worker are the reason I chose to make referral to others about Fair Haven. They blessed me, and I thank God for the experience. I say to you thank you for employing such wonderful people.

  • Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center East Birmingham, Alabama 35215

Overpriced for what you get. Not a healthy environment. I'm surprised anyone survives more than a month there, the amount of MRSA that can be found there. Staff is unhelpful. And they set up regimens that they never ask the family to approve, but charge great amounts to run.

  • Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center East Birmingham, Alabama 35215

The employees are very nice. The adminstration is very lacking in customer service. They will not return calls nor can they get family request right. Their Dr. is however, a very nice and caring man, he cares about the patients as well as the family. They are not what I would call a good place to put a love one. Even though the employess always speak to you. They have too many patients to nursing staff ratio. They do not have enough men on staff to take care of the male patients. Heard the femaie nursing staff say many time they could not lift or reposition a male patient by them selves or their liff was broken. They would let male patients go days without bathing them and in the same clothing for days. They would lose clothing or blankets even though the family was doing the patients laundry. They would have other peoples clearly marked clothing in the wrong room or have ladies clothing on male patients. They did not check the oxygen machines or IV's as often as they should. They would let them run out of distilled water or the IV would blown out a vein or become clogged and not flush it out so the patient would not benefit from the IV. They do not take care of catherters as well as feel they should. They would not shave a male patient reguarly, leaving it to the family to do so. In a nutshell, there are just not enough qualified nursing staff to take care of their patients! The administration needs to be more involved with the families and return calls. The administration also needs to be more involved in the facility and know what is going on.

  • East Glen Birmingham, Alabama 35235

My mom has been a resident at East Glen Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for the past two years. Prior to moving her to East Glen, I visited skilled nursing facilities within a twenty mile radius of my home. When I walked through the front door of East Glen and talked with the Director of Admissions, I knew immediately that East Glen was the best place for Mom. After two years, I'm still convinced that the correct decision was made. Most skilled nursing facilities have a particular odor. That "nursing home" smell does not exist at East Glen. From the Administrator to the cleaning/maintenance personnel, Mom is treated with dignity and explicit care. I am kept well informed of anything pertaining to Mom. I am so confident that East Glen is THE place that my wife admitted her mother last week for rehabilitation. My wife shares my views regarding East Glen. We couldn't be happier.
