  • Alden Estates of Shorewood Shorewood, Illinois 60404

This place needs a whole new staff. I would never recommend this place to anyone that might need to send a loved one to a nursing home for rehab. Absolutely no regard to the patient, and the poor cna's are the ones who have to do all the work on the unit. Will never return to this facility

The first time my mother was there, things went pretty well, but now it is the third time and things are horrible. She is unable to get up and out of bed by herself and when she pushes her call light it sometimes takes hours for a response. What if it was an emergency? No one even comes to check to see what she needs, they just don't acknowledge it at all. Today she was still in bed at 10:30 and waiting in agony to go to the bathroom. The last time she was there, she was home for one day before ending up in the ER again with Congestive Heart Failure and a severe UTI. They say there are only two CNA's on the floor, but that's not the patients fault. If they need extra help, there are a lot of people who would love a job. When seniors need extra care, it sure is a shame that they can't or aren't treated with respect. Something needs to be done to make this facility better. Maybe the state needs to be called and have them reported for neglect.

My mother was just released from Aldens, she has been there 2 times before. The first time there i couldnt say enough good things about the facility. The second time there i could see that the level of care had gone down somewhat. The 3rd time there was very bad. I understand that everybody is working shorthanded but this beautiful on the outside facility has gone to the dogs. My next call is to inform Senior Services about the level of care at this facility. Mind you there are some very good workers there and the PT staff is wonderful. The problem is the higher up people, maybe they should be there to see how things are run there. I feel bad for the poor people that have family any distance and cant check on their loved ones on a regular basis.

Family of Herbert Dowler. After visiting many local facilities, Symphony stood far above the rest. The care, respect, and treatment our father received while in their care was amazing. Dad flourished while in your care. We will forever be grateful for the quality of life that you returned to him while with you. The staff and administrator are extremely qualified and most respectful to patients and family members. Again, we can not Thank each and everyone of you for treating our Dad as if he was your own family member. Forever Grateful. Family of Mr. Dowler

Horrible recent experience for my elderly parents. Dad had knee replaced for second time at 86 yrs old. Lack of attention to detail and total lack of compassionate service was evident at the rehab center. At home care was a nightmare. No calls, no follow up or at home rehab after several days and numerous complaints. Finally, we had him connect with ATI for his physical therapy. No excuse for the horrendous service at this place. Total lack of concern for my 80 year old mother that was trying to communicate and cope with their lack of attention.

    Pro's / Good

Alden had a very nice décor. Most of CNA's were very nice to my loved one. Most of the nurses really tried to help. It appeared clean and my loved one was kept clean. Food was just ok.

    Negative's / Con

Problems with staff - Two nurses (that I can not name as per terms) were very abusive to my loved one. Very ageist, controlling and condescending. Stone walled me on giving information of care. Over medicated on some meds and other important meds not given at all. Complained to management and was blown off on all my concerns. The director of nursing was very unprofessional and rude to me when I told her of my concerns. I also had a problem with the billing department, I went to the nurses station and asked to speak to this person and one of the CNA's said oh…so and so is always nasty to everybody.

Put tray/ food table across the room out of my loved one's reach. Also moved the phone out of my loved one's reach. I moved it back every time I went there and it was always moved away.

Dropped my loved one and ended up with bruising. Loved one had bed sores.

Calling anyone for help takes 15-30 minutes when you put the call light on. (A lot of the CNA's are young and you will find them on their phones in the evening).

Said services were preformed when they were not. (They said they were doing physical therapy when I found out they indeed were not because there was not a Dr's release). So watch your paperwork, get the information directly from your doctor and keep on them if your loved one is here. The director of physical therapy is very unprofessional.

Not family friendly - room is small and the chair's are horrible. No privacy if you have a roommate. Have to sit on the floor. No place to purchase something to drink or eat. (Remember to bring your own) Don't eat the popcorn it isn't very good. Get home care if you can. I am sorry I did not in the beginning. This place needs to address their staffing and care problems stat.

  • Parc at Joliet,The Joliet, Illinois 60435

I have visited The Parc at Joliet numerous times, and have always been greeted with kindness. Fortunately, I nor my family needs a facility, but if they ever do I would definitely bring them to The Parc at Joliet. While I am visiting I watch how the staff and management team treat the residents' with dignity and respect, and that means a lot when you are leaving your family member in a new place with strangers. The residents' all seem happy and comfortable with their surroundings.

I have lived in the area for numerous years now, and have known the facility before it became The Parc, and it has changed ALOT for the better, and they are doing a lot of renovations to the building.

The best thing that I like about The Parc at Joliet is the caring, dignity, friendliness, cleanliness environment that it has come to be.

I don't advise anyone bringing their loved ones here. This home is COMPLETELY short staffed, and they're aware of it but do nothing! I have seen call lights on for 20-40 minutes, even longer on some of my visits. I have heard patients calling out into the hallway for help going to the washroom. The girls in the red are nice but I often see them doing things that aren't professional in the least! There would be days when I would wait for them to ask about activities and they never came! Then when I would later ask, they would claim that nobody was in the room. Not true at all. We were ignored. I have witnessed them and the therapists using their phones in front of patients. This company cares about nothing but appearance. There are a few great nurses here that are amazing and do wonders for patients. However, it is poorly managed and sometimes I feel they just didn't care.

My dad has been at the Alden in and my issue with this facility is that the CNA<s are not trained at all. My dad has a urostomy bag and during the day he wears a leg drainage bag and at night he has to use a night drainage bag. Both bags need to be rinsed out with hot water an hung on the bathroom rail to air dry. I have come in to visit and bags are not flushed out. They have put them in garbage bags still with urine in them. I have spoke to the Director of Nursing about this and nurses. The Director of Nursing answer to me was that the CNA'S will need to be retrained. As of today, the same thing is still happening. My dad has a UTI infection now. They are always short staffed. If you need little care then patients will do ok. But someone like my dad who needs more care will not do well at Aldens. I give them a poor score on care.

Looks nice but that's about it! My Mother was there for months and I had nothing but trouble with them. One time I know for a fact it tool an can over 20 min.s to answer the call light. My Mother couldn't wait any longer so I had to try and help her into her wheelchair and into the bathroom but of course too late! As I was cleaning up the "mess" the can opened the bathroom door and when I asked " Does it always take over 20 min.s to answer a call?! I don't get paid to do this!" All she said was that there were only 2 of them on the floor..she was the aide in charge. Then hire more!!! My Mother was supposed to be in a chair more but all they have are little chairs in the room..when I asked about a recliner like they had in the Hosp. I was told " Well then nobody would want to leave then!" believe me, they would!!!! So needless to say, without a headrest one's neck would get sore so back in bed she'd have to go. They have no clocks in the rooms, have a closet but no hangers..took me over a week to get some. She had been taken downstairs for bingo and was left there!!!! She managed in the wheelchair to fight the elevator and get back to her room. Dead bug on the lobbyfloor so I asked the housekeeper to clean it up..she just smiled & said " I know, I know". I could go on but not worth my time

My wife was at Alden Estates for recovery from a broken hip. She developed a pressure blister during her first night there. Her feet were supposed to be floated and that did not take place. She also had to wait almost two hours for her pain medication on the first night. She had not had a bowel movement for 5-6 days and Alden did nothing to help alleviate the problem. My wife had to instruct the CNAs on how to change her and how to go about getting her out of bed and into a wheelchair. She could not sleep at night since the thermostat is set at 74 degrees and cannot be changed. We had her discharged after two nights and the doctor in charge(whom she never saw) gave her an Against Medical Advice discharge and after being at home, taken care of by myself, she is back to herself and getting quality rest and quality care. The nurse in charge was supposed to call my daughter on the following day and that phone call never took place. It is a lovely facility but the quality of care is lacking.
