This facility is the WORST place I have ever seen! Staff is terrible and uncaring!

I agree with the post from 2012. Patients with a high level of care should not be placed here. Due to new Obama laws if you are not dying of a disease, you do not qualify for hospice, or at least this is what we are told. This is sad to me. Pain medications are given an hour to two hours late, changing is not done every two hours, call lights are not answered in an adequate time. To specify more on this, we have had a call light on for 45 minutes, and not have anyone come so we ended up changing our family member ourself and turned the light out. Watching your loved one scream out in pain is not the way you want to see them in their last days. They should be on comfort measures, with pain medicine given on time. If I could underline the "On Time" I would..I understand we aren't the only family who has someone in the home, but this is still over the top in my opinion. We have been requesting for a change in diet for almost two weeks now. Our family member can't chew anything, nor drink out of a straw yet being served Fried Chicken, Pork Chops, etc. Seems like the blaming game went on for a few weeks. Getting desperate we put in a call to the DON who informed us that the diet change order was put in last night which means that the staff was dishonest with us for almost two weeks. Every meal we would ask why the diet hadn't changed, and we were told that they had submitted it to the kitchen, but the kitchen must not have updated their records yet. You need to have a full time family member around in order to assure your loved one is getting the proper care, fed, changed when needed, and meds on time. Sadly I know we don't have that much time with our loved one, it is going to be hard. We just want for them to pass with dignity, no pain, and knowing they were loved. The way any normal person would like to be treated.

My mom was signed up to go here for Rehab after Bypass surgery. When we checked into the Facility the staff was arguing amongst each other. The administrator apologized to me and said that that never happens. The next evening my mom was rushed to the hospital. The night nurse did not monitor her oxygen or check on her through the night. Our Dr at the Heart Hospital said that if she went much longer without oxygen she could have had brain damage. Speaking to other residents there I learned that the staff argues constantly in the halls when visiting family is not around. Protect your loved ones and keep them away!

put my elderly dad here after some falls and a trip to the hospital for 3 weeks of rehab. Read some of the reviews with a bit of concern. Just had the discharge meeting with the staff and I must admit, I was pretty well pleased with the services they provided. They were kind to my dad and got him back on his feet much sooner than I anticipated. He loved the food. The facility is very clean and attractive. I would recommend Valley Ranch and Rehab and if we ever need to do this again. . . .wouldn't hesitate to return.

This is a facility that is understaffed. The staff is admittedly inadequately improperly trained. They do absolutely nothing to make the quality of life of the residents better. There is a great deal of theft, neglect, and overall inadequate care. The new owner's have made cuts to an already poor facility. The food is cold and of poor quality. The residents are not properly hydrated. The rooms are not cleaned well. The staff smokes all day outside the entrance door, or congregate in the halls chatting,yet have no time to provide the basic needs of the residents. Depressing environment. Please think twice before admitting a loved one.

CNA's are lazy and do not take care of patients. DON do not enforce rules so CNA do as they please. Find another place for your loved ones, this is not the place. Stafff is not friendly and they do not speak to family. This place will never change.

The food is of very low quality--fried and canned. Not healthy at all! If they fail to give meds on time, they remove the unused meds from packets and dispose of them resulting in extra drug costs. There is no concern for proper delivery of medications with food when required or spacing of dosages. If those things are important, they will not happen. The so called rehab services were not existant. Bed linens were not changed even weekly and many clothing items disappeared in the wash. And the courtyard, closer to the one you would find at a prison. Dirt and dead grass and a few scrub trees. But in fairness, place is clean and the people are nice and try to do their jobs. Patients appear to be treated well and with respect all times.

I was pleased with the staff when I first placed my mother but there were several issues getting staff to correspond with my sister and myself. We were told they don't make appointments or provide transportation but were verbally attacked by the ladies in the front office as well as being physically threated by a nurse when we took our mom for an apt because we didn't clear it through them first. We tried but the doctor never called us back. My sister was banned because she disagreed with the DON and her egging on of the abuse by the nurse who threatened my sister. I would never have chosen this place had I known how rude the upper office is and they don't even attempt to be understanding once you are in and they are getting your money. The place is clean but the food isn't very nutrional. Last night they had a corn dog for their main dish at dinner….

I would rate the facility a 3. This is a good place to stay if you do not need much medical attention. Patients who need a high level of care should not be placed in this home. The staff does not provide adequate attention to patients who cannot get around on their own. Staffing should be rated a 1.5.if you place a loved one in Good Shepherd Nursing and rehab ensure that you have a family member who can devote a great deal of time to enforce proper care.

Very clean and geared toward the "look" of a good nursing home. The CNA's are great along with the nurses. Food is of excellent quality. Clean Clean facility. Not enough communication with the family about the care of their loved one. People in the front office are friendly while being introduced to the facility, after that their true rude ruthless colors come out. They have their children and dogs running up and down the hall as if it is their personal home. I have heard them talk to employees as if they where less then human. Even family members who did not agree with the care that was given. They have gotten on the loud speaker and spoke very rude to a drug rep. delivery the meds for the patients. They take the closes parking spaces into the building. Their van is even parked in a handicap parking spot! The Ladies that run that front office need an attitude adjustment and learn people skills. But their day is coming when someone is going to have to wipe their butt clean.

Please believe the reviews. Management staff I.E. Administrator and Asst. DON are very argumentative and rude and defensive with any concerns voiced. They try to talk down to you and use intimidation tactics. Employees are afraid to voice concerns for fear that they will be terminated. Very high turnover with staff. except Administration,If you complain about any of the licensed staff LPN's, DON or charge nurse, no help. Guess why? They are all related (family-wise) Advice: check on your family often, and observe Administration. On a positive note: They have a clean facility.

I have referred two clients to Abington Place and have been very pleased with their treatment and progress. The staff is cheerful and competent . the care delivered there is excellent. I hear the food is very good too. I will continue to refer clients there.

WE HAD MY GRANDMOTHER HERE AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!! THE STAFF WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE HER FEEL LIKE SHE WAS STILL AT HOME; SHE WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN A SIMILAR SCHEDULE AS IF SHE WERE STILL IN THE COMFORT OF HER OWN HOME. THE NURSES WERE BY FAR EXCELLENT AND EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS-NOTHING LIKE THE NURSING EXPERIENCE WE HAD AT THE HOSPITAL. THE C.N.A.S WERE PHENOMENAL-THEY KNEW SO MUCH ABOUT CARING FOR THE ELDERLY-I WOULD ASK THEM WHERE THEY LEARNED ALL THEY KNEW-THEIR RESPONSE NEVER CHANGED-"BRIARWOOD IS ALWAYS GIVING US SPECIAL TRAINING" THE LADIES WHO RUN THE FACILITY ARE DEFINITELY THE BEST WE'VE SEEN AROUND-GOOD JOB LADIES-YOU MAKE HELP LESSEN THE BAD STIGMA ASSOCIATED WITH NURSING HOMES!

The LPN's gave all the nursing care and some were excellent and gave our Mother really good care. The RN's in charge were below average for sure. Cleanliness was uneven. Once, we Hospice was ordered but I still not convinced they ever did anything for her. I know they never contacted the family. The head of hospice was the old RN in charge of Briarwood and I think she was just as below average in her newer role.

All the time my Mother was there, we were never contacted by the physician in charge of the nursing home who was her primary care physician nor any care extender. We couldn't get anyone to call us back.Do not believe any high ratings for this place. Don't ever put a loved one here unless you plan to visit often (several times a week), find a way to conference frequently with the doctor if the patient's health status changes and work closely with the usual LPN in charge of her care every time you go in.

This place gets the same low ratings over and over again. I've gone back over all of the in the past 7 years. I wouldn't ever use them again!
