I concur 100% with the previous review posted February 20th 2017. A large percentage of the staff behave in an unprofessional manner and are either unable or unwilling to provide quality care. 20 minutes to answer a call button is very common. Never seem to have enough staff to provide adequate personal care, yet often see 2-3 congregating and socializing at nurses station. It's normal to see (personal) cell phones in use by nurses and aides while on duty. It's hard to tell who is who because of the numerous colors and prints of the "scrubs" being worn. Name tags, if worn at all, are backwards and unreadable. Meals are served lukewarm at best, incomplete, and visually unappealing. Residents who are bed-bound & need assistance to eat are usually left to fend for themselves. Privacy & dignity of residents is not maintained as I have seen residents being assisted in the bathrooms with room doors wide open allowing anyone who walks by to observe what should be a very private situation. Very new facility overall but hallways regularly smell intensely of urine & have stains on carpet.

It doesn't appear that anyone is "in charge" or supervising the aides, especially in the evening & night. Questions to aides are routinely answered with a shrug of the shoulders and blank stare. Personal care activities that should be documented to ensure completion in timely scheduled intervals are not. Medical care? What medical care? Doctor's orders are routinely not followed. Calls to DON are either not returned at all or are responded to by a subordinate.

I am attesting to my own personal observations.

Highland Pointe is terrible due to the response time and level of care given to the residents. Must wait sometimes 20 minutes for an aide to come when the assist button is pushed. Most not all are rude and not very compassionate to the residents. Nurses are very nice and knowledgeable but they can not control the aides. The in house Dr, well lets just say you wouldn't accept this level of service from your physician on the outside but you are stuck once in there. Sorry not much nice to say the performance of the overall facility is severely lacking and I was told due to call offs and short staffed continually. Meals sometimes cold and served from trays due to shirt staff and cooks that call off. Not a pleasant experience and I would not recommend this facility.

It's a shame that the service is so slipshod and unpredictable here….the concept has many excellent qualities. I like the idea of smaller "cottages" rather than a big building for the elderly to navigate. Homewood Richmond Heights has 5 cottages, each with its own dining room and lounge/TV room. The rooms are all studios, some larger and others a bit small, but they are attractive. They only have "mini-bars" and no kitchens. For my relative who is happy to eat in the dining room and no interest in cooking, this is fine. For someone who wants to bake, or wants to bring their cherished china or kitchenware -- not good.

The problem is follow-through and this is where the facility falls short. Staffing is lax and short-handed, with ONE waitress to serve 25 people at each meal. This forces long waits, cold food and people missing items…cold coffee or tea, no beverages before food, one person eating while another waits 45 minutes. Food is brought into each cottage from a central kitchen. Some meals have been good, others are "mystery meat". The quality varies wildly.

Likewise activities are listed, but often do not occur. Or occur in some cottages not others. You can hardy expect a frail old person to traipse on their own from cottage to cottage for a crafting class or bingo game! and what about winter? Many days, my relative has not one activity to go to. Things like "excursions to Applebees or Red Lobster" are schedule, then I find they never went after all. I find my relative gets zero activities most days.

You must ask for snacks or drinks, and short staffing means "good luck finding someone to help". Most staffers are so busy you hate to bug them. And snacks are terrible -- no fresh fruit or fresh baked goods, just cheap commerical cookies or stale cupcakes from discount stores. Some snacks sit out on the counter for DAYS.

Residents do not even get a house newspaper. If I bring my relative a paper, other residents grab for it. This seems like a small thing, but makes people feel cut off and lonely without news. ONE TV set -- not a big one -- in an awkward corner of the lounge, and no way to change the channel. Hard to see from most points in the room. Lamps are almost all unplugged, so useless. This is not a comfortable room at all, and with all residents in studios, this should be a substitute for having their own living room space!

I like the "small cottage" concept so much, but it is just not carried out well here. Cottages are also a bit shabby and cluttered. There are lovely open and screened porches in each cottage -- which are inaccessible to residents. Upstairs, the porch is closed permanently. Downstairs, porches have no furniture or doors to them are locked and must be opened by staff. As a result, they are almost always empty.

I am really disappointed with Grande Pointe. I have had a parent there for about 2 years and the facility has gotten worse over that time. The nurses assistants are rude. The building has gotten very dirty and it smells. The nursing is barely acceptable. The turnover of staff is unbelievable. I feel like a stranger sometimes. There was a large exit of people in charge of the different departments about a year and a half ago, and it hasn't been the same.

My mother received amazing care at this facility! We were so pleased with their new Rehab Unit, the therapy department is amazing. She had a lovely private room that was very cozy and nice for visits with the family. The food and activities offered was also great. This was our first experience with a nursing home and wow was it different than what we thought it would be! I would recommend them to anyone who wants a great place to get better!

During the week, not so bad, the Weekends………….SUCK! The staff doesn;t seem to communicate the care of patients and changes in care. I had to remind staff it was time for her shower or past time( Day wise)……..Had to tell them that daily dressing changes were being missed for days. Leaving rooms a disgrace, dirty linen, garbage over flowing. Not answering call lights or saying i will be right back, and return hour or 2 later. Leave residence sitting in the dining room with no help. Why bother having residence fill out a menu when they never get what is circled. My rating……… would not bring my dog here for care. Only gave them a 1 star because it would not submit with out any stars……… star minus

asthetically, it is an old building, but I have found the staff to be astute and caring. After spending some time there, I did not feel like it was an institution. One Sunday, my mother was not eating well for breakfast and lunch, and about 2 in the afternoon, one of the nun's specially brought my mother up a special meal and emplored her to eat more-sucessfully.

Laundry is a little hit or miss. Be sure your family members clothing is clearly labeled.
