My father was transported to Rosewood after hip surgery. A visit made me feel good about placing him there. My first visit afterwards was the total opposite of what I had seen on my tour. Two food trays were stacked on his tray table out of his reach. They were dropped off and left there, along with a water pitcher. He was left in bed all day, and not been fed or given water. When I asked if he was given his medication, they couldn't tell me if he had or not had it. There was no record of any input of food or water. When I requested a dinner tray, it was supplied. As I waited, I watched the service in the assisted dining room. Patients were struggling to reach their food and drinks because their wheelchairs had not been pushed close enough to the table. The only ones who received assistance eating were those who could not move their arms. I fed my father and went home with a heavy heart.
The next day after doing further research on this establishment, I left work to make arrangements to move him to another facility. When I arrived that morning, he was in a wheelchair facing a wall near the nurses' station having come supposedly from physical therapy. His dentures were not in, his shirt was buttoned wrong, and his hair uncombed. We had ordered phone service and the phone sat on a table unplugged, again out of his reach. I met with the head nurse, who again could not tell me if he had eaten or received his medications. How does that happen??? I made transportation arrangements to move him immediately. No family should place a loved one in this place. My father was a successful businessman in his life, and to see him treated so poorly because he was old and didn't have the strength to complain made me sick to my stomach. I told the entire staff they should be ashamed of themselves, and they should. He passed away several weeks later in a caring and loving place.

A complete failure of the nursing process to evaluate changes in residents and follow-through with an action plan. On the surface the facility is bright, shiny and clean. The staff are adept at lip service but careful studied observation reveals neglect to the point that my mother would have died. I witnessed the neglect and abyssmal care, and took control to have her transported to the Emergency Room. She suffered a rapid and steady decline a matter of a few days from over-medication, dehydration, mental status changes; from completely alert, oriented and sharp as a tack to non-stop hallucinations. After 3 1/2 days in the hospital she regained her lucid mentation but suffered debilitating physical weakness and emotional trauma.
Discussions with the DON yielded a lack of action and a defensive stance of the staff. The staff disappear for hours at a time. Nurses are inexperienced and admitedly have "alot to learn". They are unable to perform sterile procedures such as changing a Foley catheter and the other staff are unwilling to assist.
I cannot say enough to dissuade you from sending your loved ones to this facility. And beware, if you are going to Greenfields, Rosewood is the skilled nursing back-up facility.
