Review of Westminster at Lake Ridge

1 Star User Review

I have 3 family members in Westminster…things went swimmingly until they began to get older. The agreements that they made early on somehow have addendums that hurt the ones you love. Somehow their cottage (larges place you can own) isnt worth as much as a tiny apartment and they demand $40,000 from them on top of keeping the money from the sale of their cottage that they are going to turn around and sell for more than they bought from my aunts who paid over $5000 a month for their care. My impression from this place is that they are interested in only one thing and that is to suck as much money from old people as they can. They are also amazingly inept in so many ways. Their communication skills are horrific and their main doctor has the bedside manner of a war criminal.

I HIGHLY recommend you look elsewhere for your family if you love them…we are.

I agree with the 1 star rating. My parents have been residents in a cottage since the mid 90s. All is great while they are able to function independently. If they want to move to an apartment, they must downsize to a 1 bedroom/den with 1 & 1/2 baths. The larger apartments are for new residents to pay for. If they need to go to assisted living, there is a long waiting list and they must give up their place. Please realize that there are other places nearby that provide the true 'continuing care community ' we expected

Truly I really do not understand where this reviewer is coming up with their information. I have personally looked into this place with my in-laws 1/2013. You never get to own the cottages or apartments. You pay a entrance fee along with a monthly fee. Your heirs/or you (if you decided to leave) can get 50 or 90 percent of the entrance fee back depending on which one you choose. Your monthly fee is based on how much of a entrance fee you pay upfront. A higher entrance fee will give you a lower monthly fee. I cannot respond about the doctor there but everyone I met was very nice and the people living there are very happy. I do have to say it is not cheap to live there at all but if you can afford it I believe anyone could be very happy living there.
