Review of Willowbrook Residence and Rehabilitation Center

Not for everyone. The PT seemed good. The facility is comfortable, and we liked the private rooms (no extra charge) where I could stay with my husband. The food was decent, but it is served in the rooms. (I think a dining room is important to get residents up, out of their rooms and socializing.) But the nice facility is offset by a serious lack of staff, and the quality of the nursing and PCA staff is very uneven. I suppose the situation may be fine for otherwise healthy residents who are recovering from something like a surgical procedure and who can generally look after themselves. But for anyone more seriously ill, this place is a disaster. Issues came up from the first day, when my husband never got his meds because they had to get them from an off-site location, which delivered only twice a day. The second day the meds were administered much later than they had promised. They then explained that they accept a 2-hour window (1 hour each way)--so if you take a med q6h, you might get it in 4 hours, you might get it in 8. I almost moved my husband on the third day, and now regret that I didn't. Around the 10th day, my husband had a stroke. PT had alerted the DON,and when I arrived after work, I alerted her, but she wanted to "evaluate" and not "jump the gun" and wait for the doctor. As a result, he didn't make it to the hospital within the optimal 3-hour window. The EMT's were discrete, but just shaking their heads. His future now is very bleak. Prompt attention might not have altered the outcome, but one should be able to expect trained medical personnel, especially a DON, to have better judgment.
