Review of Avamere Crestview of Portland

Horrible 24 hour stay -We were shoved into Crestview by Kaiser Sunnyside after a 4 day hospital stay from a broken hip - non-operable. We were told the Kaiser System had a few beds in "skilled nursing/rehab", pick the one with an available bed and zoom - over in an ambulance. No one on staff greeted us. Her transfer from ambulance gurney to her bed was tended to by a nursing aid WHO DID NOT EVEN KNOW SHE HAD A BROKEN Hip. Oxygen tank had been ordered that morning for her arrival, it was not there. People down the hall yelling for help. A call button for her bed was underneath her neighbors bed and only located when I requested it. They did not sterilize it with alcoholic wipe nor clip it to her bed. No water cup until we asked. No attending physician checking her in nor checking vitals. As our very kind Ambulance Personel were leaving I said, "This is not good, is it?" Both responded, "Take care of your Mom and watch it" with very clear intent. I stayed with her from her arrival at 3:30 til 10:30 pm., left when she assured me she would try to sleep (while her room mate was talking/mumbling all night, etc.). As I left the double glass doors to the parking lot I turned around and went back in. No lock down. Anyone could walk in - no security guard, no check in at the nursing station. Some of the staff tried, obviously, but we all need to get Federal Funding focused on our health care system and take care of our Elders, pay the staff a decent wage, provide sterile conditions. This place felt like a dumping ground for thrown away humans. We moved my mother the next day and will begin proceedings against Kaiser who contracts with this horrid place. Clean it up, give folks the dignity they deserve upon arrival and throughout their stay.

FYI……physicians don't normally do that type of assessment. The nurse should have been there doing a full head to toe assessment and doing the vital signs personally. It is ideal to have 2 nurses assess when admitting, especially assessing the skin. Hope all is well with your mother.on

Please advocate for Oregon to impose limits on how many patients med aides and nurses can care for and also regulate how companies treat their staff. There are only limits on how many patients nursing assistants can care for. The elderly and all patients deserve better.
