Mom would have slipped into a coma with a tumor filling her brain and died in this facility, all the while in excruciating pain if I did not get her to an ER when I did, but instead followed their advice to try and "extend" her stay there. Before coming to this facility for 48 days, she went to the ER, admitted for two days and treated by one of this facilities own "prefered" doctors who coincidentally recommended her for rehab at this facility. He examined her at least 20 times. As bizzare as his diagnosis of "bursitis" being so disabling and painful was, he assured me that it could be that painful and disabling. After a few weeks of no improvement, but instead deterioration, I demanded the facility have her brain and spine examined as she had an aggressive brain lymphoma two years earlier, thought to be in remission. I was told she had a neurology consult-and that was it- no follow up, no imaging done. She was sent for a CT scan of the spine which confirmed fractures of the lower lumbar spine.I was relieved-finally something made sense. During the next three weeks,I kept inquiring as to when the fractures would be addressed. I kept getting one lame excuse after another. Meanwhile, she was told that she needed to learn pain tolerance and given continued PT(with a now known condition of a fractured lumbar spine). Mom's mental status declined horribly I insisted, as she began falling asleep while parked in a wheelchair all day- I was ignored as if the ignorant one and told that it was "normal" worsening of dementia. Despite her cries of excruciating pain uncontrolled by opiates, this facilities doctors, nurses and physical therapists lacked the ordinary common sense to get her needed medical care.
