My mother was transferred to Shannon Gray due to being a fall risk and needing physical therapy. Our family paid out of pocket for 1 month ($6150) and within 2 days we were ready to take her home to live alone rather than being ignored and untreated. She remained the full 30 days only because we paid upfront and could find no other available bed in the area. Her medications were not given properly or at all resulting in manic hallucinations. We asked for a bed monitor on her first day of arrival and the next day it still wasn't on the bed and we were told she "roamed" the halls all night. Her roommate had wondered into another resident's room, fell in the bathroom and had to be sent to the hospital. (She was also a fall risk). Every day when visiting you could hear the alarms and see the flashing light but no one went into the rooms to check on the residents. My family visited daily and had to seek out the nurses for medicines or personnel when needed for assistance to go to the toilet, etc. We have never seem such an apathetic group as those working at Shannon Gray. They ignore and talk down to the seniors as if they aren't important. The only good point to mention of this horrible stay were the therapists. I will never send a loved one to this facility. We realize the staff doesn't get paid a lot of money to serve food and help residents with baths, changing clothes, etc but we expect them to be well cared for and respected.

03/19/2015 An Interested Visitor Writes: My father-in-law was there for not quite two months for physical therapy. Our experience at this facility was not pleasant. He was not given his correct medication and was pretty much drugged to where he couldn't do much of anything except lay in the bed or sit in the wheelchair. When we brought him home Sunday we discovered he had severe bed sores which no one told us about upon discharge and we weren't given any medication for it. He was so drugged that he had no use of his legs whatsoever and he was so pale. By 8pm that night he began getting color back in his face and was getting back to his old self. By yesterday he was actually able to use his legs to transfer from chair to wheelchair with help. I would not recommend Shannon Grey for my dog more less a human being.

I have seen staff come and go over the past 2 1/2 years. They provided good care but sometimes I had to stay on them. The managers are only as good as the floor staff makes them. Once I complained to the nurse supervisor and she fixed it however she couldn't force those girls to carry out the corrections 24 hours a day. The administrator was also very friendly and helpful. They got a nice therapy room and dad even got in the pool. They just switched some managers again in January. First place in my heart when it came to my parent!

This place is horrible! My father went there on March 23, 2014 after hip surgery. They let him lie there in his bed for almost three weeks. He has a bed sore 12cm big near his sacrum plus several more starting up his spine. He is severely dehydrated and malnourished. He has advanced dementia and can not ask for help nor feed himself. They were told this yet no one helped him with his feeding or anything. They knew he had this sore but did nothing except hide it. The employees on the units were very unpleasant and acted as if it was a great deal of trouble to do anything. Shannon Gray should be shut down! Now he is in the hospital with respiratory failure, severely dehydrated, and malnourished. What cruel heartless people work there! If you do not want to help the elderly people who are disabled and can not help themselves, get out of the medical field and go work at Burger King, McDonalds, etc. anywhere but at a facility like that. It is a money making business that preys on people because of Medicare and Medicaid and will let your loved one lie there and rot.

After much time spent in this facility I would strongly encourage that you consider all other options. There are plenty 4 & 5 star facilities near Jamestown where patients are provided with much higher quality of care. It is discouraging with all the laws and regulations through the government and CMS that a facility like this is allowed to continue to provide care to our community and elderly population.

i was a patient and speak first hand - this place has so many problems. Some of the staff (physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, aides, kitchen and janitorial) were very nice….but MOST were verbal about their dissatisfaction and seemed to be under a lot of emotional stress and were looking for other employment. Just about every day you had a new face come in. Its like they were always scared and stressed out to the MAX which made it difficult to do what they had signed on for. . Understaffed, under appreciated, and underpaid -all because of two owners who are not REALLY INTERESTED in the actual welfare of the patients….this is how I saw it

I truly do believe that now that the director of nursing has been fired that shannon gray has the potential for recovery and becoming the facililty that it should be. It truly is a beautiful place. Its hard to believe that one persons poor management skill, foul mouth, lying and devious behavior can drag a facility down. But it did. I saw it. Reading previous negative comment I can only say that they were true. Staff was alway on edge worrying if they would have a job at the end of the day. She was a pitiful excuse for a director, only concerned about her wage which she announced in meetings. Alway concerned about missing drugs to the point of paranoia( due to the fact that she has had problems with drugs. ie license was suspended for year due to this, so appearantly thought that every one was stealing them, or possibly to divert attention from herself. But in any event, like anywhere mistakes are made and can be rectified. It is truly a beautiful facility with good caring staff. With her gone and a director that knows how to manage, it will be great !!

The previous DON who everyone had trouble with is no longer there. Ever negative experience we had was addressed promptly and courteously. The new guy taking over at the end of January is working as the weekend supervisor and is already getting to know the patients and families. I feel quite secure in my mother being there.

My Mother has been at Shannon Gray for 8 months. She has received very good care. She and her room are kept very clean, her needs are met in a timely manner and the staff is friendly and courteous to her and her family. The 3 complaints that we have had received immediate attention and were corrected promptly. I could not ask for better attention.

Staff is friendly and helpful. My mother feels well treated and cared for now that see is off the main hall. So far my only complaint is I wish there were more registered nurses available to help with medical related issues.

This is by the far the most beautiful facility, but that is not what you need when you go to a rehab center. You need caring people who can can help you heel. The nursing aids and the nurses are very nice but always appear on edge. The upper management is either crazy on on drugs. It was hard to tell. I felt sorry for my nursing assistant she was so kind and I heard her being screamed at in the hall. I thought it was a confused patient but later when she came back to help me she was crying. I could not believe it when she told me it was the director of nursing. She was cruel and had such a foul mouth that I don't even thinks she knows what she says in front of the patients and their families. A pretty building was not what she needed. I don't want to put my mother in a dirty building but the tension there was to much.
