Review of Retama Manor Nursing Center/Edinburg

I only wish it were possible to give this facility a number of negative stars.

First off, this was my first contact with a nursing facility as a patient.

The staff has only a few members who are fluent in English. This causes not end of problems and requires the staff members to run as a bi-lingual staff member to answer any question. Answer a call button is extremely hit or miss. I needed to use the restroom at 1 in the morning. At 2 in the morning someone finally showed up. It was better sometimes during the day, but not usually. Insects patrolled the bathroom floor at night. The bathroom was not only unsanitary, but inconvenient. I was unable to walk and really needed assitance on a regular basis. Items needed were constantly out of reach. Most of the time I couldn't eve reach my wheelchair to get ready for my bathroom trips. When I was first taken it at the Weslaco unit, I did not receive any pain medication from 4 in the evening until 6 the next morning. Antibiotics arrived 2 hours later. There was not rhyme or reason in the meds dispensation. I usually got all my pills at the same time even though I usually took meds twice a day at home. I would not have fed the "food" I received to my dog. Bland, tasteless, over done, hot things cold and cold things hot. Having just read your guidelines, I wonder why I even bothered. Oh, I was injured repeatedly because the staff had not been briefed on my condition or just didn't care.
