Review of Tuttle Care Center

Tuttle has wonderful potential for being a great place for your loved one. However, they fall short. I would never place someone there that cannot speak for themselves unless you stay very involved with their care (something that Tuttle does not really like). They welcome family involvement up to a point but they make it very clear that they want to make all the care decisions for your loved one, even if you know a better way. There are great people out there who work hard and genuinely care about the residents. Most of the nurses are pretty good and the day aides are really good but the night aides are lazy and disrespectful. They spend more time taking cigarette breaks than they do checking on the residents. They try to look busy but in fact, they are just roaming the halls going from one wing to the next. The nursing home doctor is spread way to thin having several homes to watch over so don't expect too much help in that regard. The nursing staff seems to be under a great deal of stress due to the turnover in one of their very key positions, the DON (Director of Nursing). The best protection is to know the rights of your loved one and to ensure that they are getting the best care, but if you can't be involved, there are better options.
