My family decided to place our mother at West Park (WP) after she had major surgery (she is also being treated for stage 4 bone cancer). After surgery she was unable to care for herself or move around by herself. Because we all work we needed skilled nursing care for her. The data we researched gave WP 5 stars. With this information, and from discussions with friends who had loved ones at WP at some point in time, we choose WP. She wold be at WP a minimum of 14 days. During the beginning of week one we were pretty happy with the service and care given to our mother. On Thanksgiving we took our mother out for a few hours and later that evening once she returned she was left alone in her room for over 5 hours sitting in her own urine. She rang the nurses/aides several times, but was not changed or treated respectfully. She was dismissed several time like they had more important things to do. She was left wet and cold until she broke down and cried and told the nurse to call her family and get her out of there. We understand that it was a holiday, but leaving someone wet and cold for that long is unacceptable. My mother, and everyone else's mother, deserves better than that. She lost all of her self respect that night, on a day we should be giving thanks. I would not recommend this place to anyone else. What happens to the folks that are less vocal and don't have family checking in on them? We are appalled that she was treated this way. They later apologized to my mom for how they treated her, but that was because she was ready to leave their care. Some of the staff have been good to Mom, but we can not forgive those that left her wet, cold and miserable that night. They are supposed to be taking care of her! We will file a formal complaint with Mercy Franciscan.
