Review of Accordius Health at Wilmington

1 Star User Review

The nursing staff and all those employees who daily care for patients are excellent. The administration…the "bosses"…misrepresent the truth right from the first intake interview. The on-staff doctor ignores patient requests. Patients must share a bathroom with a complete stranger. Communication with families takes place only when demanded…repeatedly…by the families. Promises are made and broken by the administration. Cudos to the those hard-working nurses, LPN's, and CNA's. Shame on the "suits".

Your gut is telling you the right thing!! Get your mom out of there as quickly as possible!!! The rehab portion is excellent, but the nursing side I would not even rate at all. I witnessed first hand deceit by nurses/CNA's and even the Director of Nursing. I visited every single day. My mom was there. In short, my mother was seriously injured at that facility and no one knew anything as to what happened. I was notified almost three hours after my mother was allegedly "found" in bed and told "she's not hurt," but she had a "red mark" over her right eye and black and blue under both eyes (what I was told). When I got there, it was WAY more than what was represented by the nurse who phoned. I asked for a full investigation, did not receive one because the Director of Nursing had not written it up as of the time my mother was discharged. I received a phone call at approximately 1245 a.m. the day of my mother's discharge stating she was "found" on the floor in the bathroom. My mother who allegedly had three alarms even though the wires I saw were not hooked to anything and when EMS transferred my mother to the ER at my request, they used her entire bedding to transfer her to the gurney and NO alarm went off at all. My mother was outside the nursing station allegedly so they could keep a "closer eye" on her and also with allegedly three alarms, yet was "found" injured seriously in her bed by the oncoming staff and then again "found" on the floor of the bathroom. No one heard any of the three alarms? They tend to place patents in the hall around the nursing station if they have "needs" basically so they can put them off. I assisted my mother's roommate NUMEROUS times as she was in the bathroom unattended. You can put your light on and no one comes. I went out to find a nurse and one I found was rude and even when I said there is a patient in the bathroom needing assistance, she abruptly responded with "that's not my patient." I went back and assisted the resident. I brought my mother, who I used to be able to have conversations with, home and she never recovered from the head injury, nor did we have a conversation like we used to. Due to the injuries she sustained there we could not take pictures because I did not a my mother remembered that way. My mother passed away and all I can say to you, is PLEASE listen to your gut!!

My mother is currently a rehab patient at this facility. For the first couple of weeks, absolutely everyone there were like family. They had some kind of a big meeting and I know one administrater (one that actually helped me a great deal) lost her job as did a lot of nursing staff. My mother is 80 years old, of very good mind and does all she can to not bother anyone. But, every day, the moods are changing with the staff and it is actually starting to look like they are trying to clear out a particular hall for some reason…and my mother is on that hall. They have started sedating people on that hall and from what we know about those patients, their reason for being there should not require sedation. This place is 2 hours away from me. But, it is where she needs to be in order to get the help she needs. I am now looking for a new one. I'm getting a bad gut feeling and when that happens, I act on it. All I can say is do not allow a family member to be placed here without a thorough check on the facility.
