Review of Sands Point Center for Health and Rehabilitation

1 Star User Review

This is one of the coldest and neglectful nursing homes on Long Island. At first glance, you will think how beautiful it looks, but more care goes into this than patient care. My relative was placed at Sands Point after a stay at hospital affiliated with the nursing home. Prior to his placement, it was made, clear that as a dementia patient with difficulty swallowing, he would need to be fed by hand slowly. This wasn't done, instead they cut his food rations, basically starving him and leaving him to figure out how to feed himself. There aren't enough CNA's per patient ratio to give adequate care. Many treat the patients with such disdain, especially those who families advocate for better treatment, or treatment with dignity. Often, as in our case, my relative paid the price of our complaining. For the past week, he has not been washed. Endless promises by the administration to do a better job are empty and attempts to "quiet" the family. The administrators never leave their offices to walk the floors. We will be taking our relative out of Sands Point. It's a beautiful facility with some of the ugliest and neglectful staff, I have ever seen.
