Review of Nassau Rehabilitation & Nursing Center

My uncle was in the rehab section of Nassau Extended Care for approximatley one week when he came down with what seemed like either a bad cold or laryngitis ( he could hardly speak). The Dr saw him and ordered antibiotics, a week later he wasn't any better and asked her to take a look again. I was then told that an ENT Dr had looked at him and wanted to order a scope down his throat. I should also mention that he has COPD and was getting nebulizer treatments for that. They also told me they did a chest xray with negative results. Four days later I went to check up on him and he looked terrible and they now had him on oxygen…I never even received a phone call. I didn't need a medical degree to see that he was in some sort of pulmonary distress and we insisted on him going to the emergency room. Something none of the "professionals at the facility could figure out"? I fully believe that if I had not visited him on that day the only phone call I would have gotten from them was that he passed away. The tests at the hospital showed he had pneumonia in both lungs and was extremely sick. The Dr at the hospital told me he had had this for around 5 days and that if anyone had listened to his chest sounds they would have known something was up. Amazing!!!!! I don't think they ever used a stethiscope. I would never recommend anyone to this place..not sure where their DR got their degrees. This was totally unacceptable.
