Review of Medford Care Center

1 Star User Review

Five star rating from the government is a healthy stretch. The nursing care is adequate. My mother is a resident there and generally she is clean and there are no sores or open areas on her body. I check her daily and I visit 2-3 times a day. The rehab is questionable. The rehab department is very quick to say someone has reached their max and the medicare is cut off. It is useless to appeal the decision as the reports sent to medicare are slanted their way and there is not a visual inspection by medicare they only go by the written report from the nursing home. When the actual rehab gets to where they have to actually do physical work with the patient the pt. has reached the most she can do.

To the May 23 Reply: Everyone SHOULD be treated the same way. You don't seem to understand that EVERYONE should be treated with dignity and all should receive quality care and rehabilitation, short- and long-term residents alike.

I too agree with the above review. Yes, the place is relatively clean and the residents aren't covered in their own waste--and that's it. The staff is always running around totally unorganized and never readily available when they are called for help. They don't seem to understand the complexities or rehabilitation needs of stroke survivors. Everyone is treated the same way--like long term nursing home residents who are there until the end.

My father is a short-term resident in their "sub-acute rehabilitation" section, and I have to say, the poor quality of their rehabilitation staff is glaringly evident in my father's condition. I am there everyday, and he only receives at most, 1 hr/day. Often times, when he has a medical appointment in the morning, they don't bother to adjust their schedules to accommodate his "therapy" for another time--he just looses out on the day. The therapy, as my father has stated, is ridiculously low level, and doesn't help him to push beyond his current physical disability. His motor skills are poorer now than when he was admitted, and he wants to get better!

Their "therapy" mentality is that of basic mobility exercises to keep nursing home residents entertained for an hour. They don't seem to understand the complexities of stroke survivors, or others who suffer similar neurological events, and the issues of balance many people with these conditions have. Their "treatment plans" don't have true rehabilitation in mind, just some 'busy time' for nursing home residents.

In ten days, my father has fallen from his wheelchair twice, and both times, he's been forced to wait laying on the floor for someone to notice that he's fallen. Nobody bothers checking on him, and when we are not present, he's alone in his room staring at the wall until bed time and some staff decide to help him into the bed.

I've tried to be patient and give this place a chance, but we've all reached our limit and are trying to get him moved to a more qualified facility.

I couldn't agree more with the previous review and knew that I wasn't the only one who felt this way. I too, find it hard to believe that this facility has a CMS 5-star rating. I have experienced the same with the rehab department saying the person has reached a plateau and medicare is being cut off. It must be part of their business model. In addition, the building is stuck in the 80's when it was built, and the lack of repair and upgrading, particularly to the residents' living quarters is glaringly evident. This is a for-profit facility and in my opinion, it's the top priority. Nevertheless, I have seen and experienced other facilities and they are all the same or worse.
