Gorham House Gorham, Maine 04038
My relative lived there & was well taken care of by the daily care givers. But when she sent to the hospital management called us to say they wouldn't take her back. They left her & us hanging with no place to go. We found out too late it is illegal for them to do that. Beware of the promises they make & get them in writing!

After spending 20 months here on a daily basis with a loved one who needed special care in the long-term care hall, I can give it no more than a single star. It is extremely clean and laundry is excellent, but on the long-term care hall the CNAs are often lacking in skills with those with dementia, adequate numbers to get residends ready in the morning and ready for bed in a timely fashion. They are slow to respond to call buttons when help is needed. Often they have not read the care plan which can change frequently. Because of CNA shortage, residents are too often put to bed without being washed as they were supposed to be. One resident who had a sore on his botton did not get the required treatment and needed to be put to bed and rolled every two hours, but I had to fight politely to get that to occur. They need higher pay and should not be hired right out of high school. The Administration needs to be more sensitive to the needs of residents and caregivers. Caregiver support is really nonexistant. I could continue but will not. Suffice it to say, improvements are in order,

My husband had a six week stay on the Skilled Unit. I was not pleased with the care the CNAs gave. I daily found him soaked with urine, pants, tee shirt, sometimes with a puddle under his chair. Other times he wouldn't receive a meal tray until someone noticed. Having dementia he wasn't able to ring the bell for anything. I would find his special ted socks washed and in a pile souring by the sink, stinking so badly that I cringed that they would put them on him, so I took over washing his things. Some of the CNAs were excellent of course, but the majority made me cringe. The other departments did very well, no complaints.
Barron Center Portland, Maine 04102
Our mother was in a home in Cape Elizabeth and did not receive the care she needed. Since moving to The Barons Center in Portland she has shown much improvement and is far better cared for. The staff are kind and attentive and very much in tune with the individual patients needs. Very pleased with the level of care provided our mother.
Piper Shores Scarborough, Maine 04074
My father-in-law is an independent living resident at Piper Shores. On two occasions, he has recovered from surgery at Holbrook Health Center, the skilled nursing component of Piper Shores. Holbrook's staff make it a point to know the personal preferences of my father-in-law, in addition to providing expert nursing and rehabilitation care. Each stay at Holbrook spanned about 3 weeks time. My father-in-law was delighted with the care, and we were absolutely thrilled with his recovery.

My mother is there, and not only does she love the staff and the place, but we do also. It isn't easy pleasing 3 daughters, 2 of which don't live in state. But we are very satisfied.
Hawthorne House Freeport, Maine 04032
One of the least professional staffs in the business in my opinion. The place needs better management and a big facelift in personnel and policies. For being in the people business, the atmosphere is degrading by virtue of the language and attitudes of the nurses and cna's. It is most unfortunate for the residents who have to spend their last time on earth.
Horizons Living and Rehab Center Brunswick, Maine 04011
Our mother is now in her second stay at Horizons. After being diagnosed with COPD, our mother needed a place to rehabilitate and get ready for her return to her home. Horizons was the perfect location. The staff are friendly and the medical personnel are knowledgeable. We are hopeful that our mother will again be able to move back home but rest better knowing she's well cared for in the meantime.

The nurses were great with my family member although i did not lke the way a cna came into her room and ripped her covers off and demanded that it was time to get up none the less this cna didnt happen to see i was in the room, once she did she left and didnt return. There should be no room in the nursing perfession for these kind of actions.
Barron Center Portland, Maine 04102
Barron Center has been wonderful to my dad. The facility is not the prettiest nor the most modern, but the people are caring, patient, and professional. The care-givers have been a tremendous source of comfort to our family. The administration is attentive and forthcoming with information regarding ongoing care and therapy. The staff go beyond expectations in assisting with family visits, meals, and celebrations. I highly recommend Barron Center to anyone needing personal care services for themselves or loved ones.
