I find the caretakers, staff, nurses, theropists, and administration to be excellent! The staff always has a happy attitude. The facility is satisfactory. It is older, but is very clean. It is obvious to me that the administration works hard to keep the facility neat and tidy. Many of the rooms are only semi-private with 2 & 3 people in a room. That took some "getting used to" for me and my loved one.
According to my loved one, the food is satisfactory; similar to food served at hospitals. Some days are, of course, better than others, but it usually smells very good when I walk through at dinner.
I really appreciate that residents who are healthy are encouraged to move about and sit outside in the yard or play games in the dinning room. Residents are given a great deal of independence and encouraged to be maintain their independence as much as possible. I love that the facility is treated as a home and community! There are varying levels of community since some residents are almost completely independent and others need complete care.
If you've not been in a nursing home, be forewarned: There are some very ill people there. And, these people are not shoved into a corner and hidden. They are included whenever possible in daily activities. I was surprised by some residents' state of health, but grew accoustomed to it. My loved one still struggles with living with severe mentally and/or physically challenged neighbors. Though it's a bit shocking for "the rest of us", I'm glad these residents are given such love and care, and included so often. It's good for the soul--for all of us!
