Review of Courtenay Springs Village

5 Star User Review

Located on beautifully landscaped grounds in a quiet, safe part of Merritt Island, It offers a wide range of services: independent living homes, semi-independent living apartments, assisted living, nursing home, and hospice. Courtenay Springs has the potential to be the among the finest facilities in Brevard.

Given this potential, it is particularly disappointing that the administrators at Courtenay Springs are so bad that this facility routinely receives the poorest evaluations from both government inspectors, residents, and their families.

The senior staff are uneducated and lazy. Their focus on numerous petty rules cause employees to leave as soon as they can get another job offer. This leads to them making extensive use of temporary staff who have little knowledge of the patients and their needs. Courtenay Springs has had half-a-dozen Directors of Nursing in the last few years. Although the quality of food has improved lately, it is still substandard. The laundry service is so poor that the linen carts are often lacking sheets, blankets, and bed pads--and they lose patients' clothes all the time. There are a few hard working nurses and aides but most with any talent seek work elsewhere. Those who stay can often barely speak English, are unsophisticated and rude, uneducated, or just plain dumb. These are not bad people--they merely lack the intelligence, training, and education to provide decent patient care.

Horror stories abound: forgetting to feed patients, patients being run into by motorized wheelchairs, seriously illness going unnoticed--the list goes on and on. There is no intentional abuse. Most of the staff are nice people. They are just so unsophisticated, lazy, and ignorant that patients do not consistently receive good care.

If your Mother abused you as a child, Courtenay Springs is a good place to put her. Otherwise avoid Courtenay Springs.
