Palmer Healthcare Center Palmer, Massachusetts 01069
The direct care nurses, and nursing assistants are compassionate, and caring. They work together as a team with the goal of ensuring the residents have the highest quality of life they are able to obtain. They treat their residents with dignity, and respect. The facility patients primarily are afflicted with Alzheimer's, and dementia, and they frequently take the patients whose behaviors make them hard to place, many have been transferred from other facilities who felt they were to difficult to care for, but they find a place, and a home there. They understand that the behaviors are a response to stress, and anxiety which part of the disease, not the person. The medical director, and his Nurse Practitioner work tirelessly to help alleviate the stress, and anxiety as well as providing for the medical care of any other illnesses they may have. The facility may not be the prettiest, or most modern, BUT, it provides some of the best care I have seen. It has gotten, in my opinion , an undeserved 1 star rating. The star rating is in part based on if a patients ability to get around, or care for their self declines, and because all the residents at this facility will decline, its the nature of the disease, it will rate lower. Do not be fooled by star ratings, state inspections, or how pretty the place is. When considering placing a loved one you MUST tour the facility, and from a distance, watch how the staff interact with the residents. That is the most important thing, and the only thing to consider.
