The best meal of the day is definitely breakfast. Lunches and dinners are uninspired. The weekday staff seem competent and engaged. The weekend staff are not as engaged and some don't work there on a regular basis. The activities staff does their best with limited resources to provide meaningful activities for the residents. It seems there are not enough CNA's to assist all the residents with their needs such as toileting, etc. Overall, the staff do their best in a very busy nursing and rehabilitation center.

Thank you for your comments. We went to an assisted living menu a year ago and it helped bring satisfaction up dramatically. I agree that the food is basic fare. I have lunch here often and it's good, but I think your comment about it being "uninspired" is an accurate description. My Dietary Manager is changing up the menu currently and working on recipes for the select menu that changes more frequently (she has been having us taste her creations - a lot more salads and so far I've been pleased!). We just have to get it into action!
I pop in on weekends and my Director of Nursing Services does as well. We staff a weekend supervisor, but have noted that they aren't really supervising…training has been done. Again, I think this is a fair thing to state and we have staffed an resident care manager through the weekend to oversee the floor. We also have weekend managers that are here Saturday and Sunday. I will be working with them to check on the floors, monitor call lights, etc.
Lastly, We staff NAC's at a high level and staff an extra PT Aide who assists new admissions to settle in - on evening shift during the week. This started fairly recently and has made a big difference in how newly admitted residents feel about being here-what to expect, snacks available, personal attention. I will say that I don't know that it will ever feel like we have enough NAC's at certain times of the day, after meals, at change of shift, on weekends if supervision is not strong. We have very caring staff. Leadership and supervision is the key.
Activities can spend more money! Nataliya is excellent with budget control and I am fine if she goes over:). Again, thank you for your thoughts, you are very fair minded and I appreciate that. Lynda Baldwin, Administrator
