Review of Woodwind Lakes Health and Rehabilitation Center

I would give in NO stars! My mother has been there about 8 hours now and I will be transferring her to another facility tomorrow!! Let me begin with my first meeting with them. The admission coordinator, Joanna was AMAZING! She gave me all of the resources I would need and a tour of the facility. I explained the needs my mother would require, (low boy bed with mats) which are pretty standard for these types of places and was reassured they could provide them. The facility is dated and has a strong smell of urine. The courtyards are no more that concrete slabs in direct sun! I actually overlooked all of these things because I plan on visiting my mother daily and maybe taking her out to lunch a few days a week. I am a nurse and have worked 12 hr night shifts for over 15 years. I received a call yesterday that my mother would be transferred at 11 am today. After working all night, I arrived at Woodwind at noon, allowing for the drive time and was informed the time was changed to 1pm. No big deal…..my family an I sat and had lunch to wait for her. During this time, Joanne the admission coordinator came by to have me sign all the papers and explain what they all meant. My mother arrived at 2:30pm. The gentleman pushed her to her room where we entered. He stated he was going to get someone to help him move her and stepped out. My mother was highly agitated from the transfer and crying (not unusual), After 15 min of waiting for someone to help, I informed the transporter that we would help him. We moved my mother to the chair. I walked out to the desk and asked a tech sitting there if we could get some assistance in the room. I went to my mothers room an proceeded to unpack all of her items. The room was dusty and had no paper towels in the dispenser, The bed was in the highest position and there was not "remote" to lower it and there were no mats. A lady came in to introduce herself as the nursing director, upon which I informed her that we had been there for over 40 min and no one has been in to help. She walked out unapologetic and gruffly stated she would send someone. After 50 min of my mother begging to get in the bed, a tech walked in. She then noticed the bed would not lower and stated she was going to get a remote. At this point I had asked for help 4 times to no avail. I told my husband to load up my mother because we were leaving. During this time while I was packing her items, Joanna arrived. She was very apologetic and asked my to speak to the administrator. Well let me just say, he was the most unsympathetic, patronizing, dismissive administrator I have ever encountered. He told me that my expectations were unreasonable and that I should take my mother elsewhere! We went back and forth and I explained that as healthcare professional my expectations were extremely reasonable and I was fully aware of the standard of care that most nursing home provide. I was just appalled that here it was so blatant! Joanna brought to my attention that I did not have any medication to give my mother if I took her home and reassured me that she would help me find another place for my mother. I am grateful for Joanna, but please avoid this place at all cost!! No one really cares and it starts at the top!
