The phrase "skilled nursing" is misleading. I would like to have known that the definition did not include careful monitoring of fluid intake nor careful observation of resident when medication is administered. At one point my husband choked while taking several pills at once. Another time a capsule was dropped on the floor and not taken. Had I known that the care offered was not what I thought was skilled nursing I would have hired a private duty nurse to ensure that my husband got the care he needed. We were told that he would continue rehab in preparation for coming home, however we never received a treatment plan. Based on our experience I would suggest that a family member spend most of everyday with the resident to monitor his/her care.
