Review of Brandywine Hall

1 Star User Review

Brandywine may have been better at one time, but it is now shabby and in desperate need of renovation. Emphasis seems to be on keeping the beds full. The rehab unit is supposedly for short term patients who are there for rehab services for injury, post-operative care, or generalized mobility issues. My husband was in a room alone for a few days and it was bearable, although not very clean. He had been admitted for rehab following a fall in which his back was injured. Then a man with obvious signs of some sort of dementia was admitted to the room. He slept all day and then kept my husband awake all night with nonsense talking and moving around the room. This is not an atmosphere conducive to recovering from an injury.

Also, in the very beginning PT and OT were not doing their jobs efficiently. I watched an OT session and my husband received fifteen minutes of therapy in a one hour session. Time was wasted entering his treatment into a hand-held computer and finding him a wheelchair with two leg supports instead of one. The institution is in obvious need of working wheelchairs. The PT room is barely adequate and the equipment in need of updating. The Physical Therapists are good, but treatment is done by PT aides.

The long term nursing home areas where one must pass through to reach the rehab unit are beyond pitiful. Residents sit slumped in wheelchairs lining the halls and around the nurses' stations. We were forced into this institution by the demands of insurance and availability of male beds. I would never recommend Brandywine Hall to anyone who wanted efficiency, cleanliness, and up to date facilities.

RIght on. I totally agree. It's like a morgue in this place. The help/workers are very nice, professional, and helpful, although walking thru the place all I saw were, as the comment before me described, old sickly people slumped over in wheelchairs, lined up in a row of 25 or more against the wall surrounding the nurses station. Not a very rehabilitating site for recovery.
