There are some truly lovely staff members but remember this is a for-profit facility. Be very aware of your rights as a resident and be prepared for them to be ignored and disputed. Some of the speech therapists are way too fond of finding "swallowing issues", which is how they keep themselves on the payroll. Same goes with hospice service provided by Vitas; patients are routinely placed on hospice in order to bilk Medicare and allow the nursing home to reduce their own staff. Vitas, in particular is under investigation by the Federal Department of Justice ( Google this, for confirmation ) for cherrypicking patients who are not terminal and who are rubberstamped for continuing hospice services every 6 months. Also, as someone else mentioned, be aware of misleading-to-fraudulent statements about the patient potentially being kicked out…my father, in tears, disclosed to me that he had been told that he must sell his house or leave the nursing home, which is a blatant lie…Medicaid can only, at most, place a lien on your property to recover your portion of the bill, after your death, and you never, ever are required to sell your home.
This facility is omwed by Extendicare, which is fraught with so many issues and complaints that there is a law firm in the Baltimore area that deals exclusively with issues with this chain. Beyond these reviews on this site, please consult Medicare's rating system for nursing homes and you will find that Langhorne Gardens has many, many issues that have led Medicare to rate it 1 out of a possible 5…issues with pressure sores, low quality food, fire and safety issues, staffing…If it all feasible, get your loved on into a non-profit facility, whcih generally have quite high standards of care. Hope this helps.

sorry to tell you, they ARE under a non-profit now and its absolutely the worst ever in the 7 yrs. my loved one has been there. Its probably somehow related and just opened under a different name to dodge all the law suits. They've taken so much away from the residents and cut back even further on staff. The neglect is prevalent every day. I have no idea how this place stays open. they have to be paying the state off to hide their deficiencies. DON'T PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS PLACE….ITS NOT FIT FOR DOGS.
