Review of Newark Care and Rehabilitation

4 Star User Review

After the passing of our parents, my brother Bob agreed to leave his east coast independent handicapped living center in Delaware to live closer to me, his sister, in Newark, Ohio. Although fiercely independent, he realized at that time that he was failing to meet his daily living tasks unaided as he entered his senior years as a brain injury survivor. This was a very traumatic time for Bob. A move and life change were always emotionally difficult for him; but additionally, he was dealing with a rapid decline of strength, stability and physical health factors that were beyond his ability to cope without assistance.

After a stay in Licking Memorial Hospital for depression and evaluation, he was referred and placed in Kindred Transitional Care & Rehab (formerly Newark Healthcare) for physical therapy and restorative care. This move and the care he received proved to be so helpful physically and emotionally that he decided to become a permanent resident. The excellent nursing care, medical social services and staff helped Bob and the family enormously to cope through a very challenging period of settling in, adapting and accepting deficits and finding the best avenues to move toward optimal good health and well-being. Kindred-Newark is a full service facility with primary care physician, medical social services, psychological services, physical, occupational and speech therapies, nutritional, eye, dental and health maintenance consult and services, all available on-site, and Bob has taken full advantage of all of these services with great improvement in his daily living.

Today, after six years in residence at Kindred-Newark, Bob is stable and content, living the most fully-engaged lifestyle his capabilities will allow. The staff and residents are his extended family, and he enjoys the attention and socialization that allows him to feel like a valued member of this community. Bob has structured his daily schedule by voicing his preferences; when to begin his day, where and when to have meals, choices for a healthy diet, and which activities he participates in which best fit into his daily routine. As his closest relative and advocate for Bob’s well-being, I feel like a part of an effective team. I continually benefit by the support of a caring staff and work closely with them to maintain Bob’s health status and happiness. I wholeheartedly recommend to members of our community to visit this facility when in need of these services of special need for their families, The staff at Kindred make a very positive impact in our lives on a daily basis and I can’t thank them enough!
