Review of The Laurels of Walden Park

I searched and searched for a nursing facility that would meet the standards of our family. The social worker at the hospital gave me a long list of facilities to check out. I chose to tour the ones that were the easiest to get to from both work and home. I went to 6 facilities and was dreading the last tour that I set up at Villa Angela. I was immediately pleased when I first walked in the front door and was greeted with a smile and a sweet hello from the receptionist. My nose was happy as there was no urine smell that greeted me like in many of the others. I met with the Director of Admissions & Community relations and was put at ease. She answered my questions before I could ask them. She was very knowledgeable. As we toured the facility, I noticed that the patients looked very happy. I got to meet many of the management team and asked them questions as well. They seemed genuinely happy with their jobs. They were easy to talk to. Also, the rooms were clean and there was lots of activity among the residents. I noticed that it just was not "old people" sitting around in wheelchairs. There were many different ages of folks. I liked that as my mother is in her sixties and was resistive to short term rehab. I also was concerned/confused with how Medicare and the insureance would pay for these services. This was all explained to me as well. Once the tour was completed, I knew this is where I wanted mother to be. Upon returning to the Admissions office, we called the hospital together and set everything up. Mother was admitted 2 weeks ago and doing well. Love that therapy team…they are helping her to reach her goal…to come home. By the way, I have told everyone how great Villa Angela is…my aunt may be going there to there alzheimer's wing!
