Review of Whetstone Gardens and Care Center

I would not recommend this facility to ANYONE, based on the observations that several of my family members and I had. The aids are difficult to find when needed. We saw a resident who had urinated while in their wheelchair and had left a noticable puddle on the floor. Several aids entered the visiting area where she was seated, and none of them attended to her. It was always difficult for us to find an aid to help my father with toileting needs, as well.

My father's room mate said that he had observed an aid shaking my father roughly, in an effort to wake him for a meal. On several occaisions, the staff lost some of his medical records, as well as clothes, etc. His new wheelchair was lost by the staff for several months so he was given one which was in bad condition to use.

Family members told them that he needed assistance with eating, yet when we visited, he was often left to eat on his own. He lost considerable weight during the time that he was there. His overall physical condition, and his mental attitude deteriorated during the year or so that he was a resident. (After he told my brothers that he really didn't want to be there, we finally found a vacancy at a much better facility and relocated him, where he was finally happy for the last 6 months of his life! ) We moved him from Whetstone at the end of Feb, 2011. We strongly regret that our family placed him in Whetstone Gardens. This is not an exaggerated account of what happened…don't make the same mistake that we did. Spend some time in unannounced visits and observe for yourself. Check there inspection results and resident complaints. Do your HOMEWORK!
