My niece (unaware that she should never have relied on the word of a discharge planner) did rely on the word of a social worker discharge planner from the hospital my sister-in-law was discharged from. This person told my niece that she '…highly recommended….' Ambassador for the kind of care required by my sister-in-law. To make a long story short, she was admitted. My niece is very attentive and visited daily at various times. However, the care her mother received was far below standard. Some examples are: running out of medication needed to apply to bed sores (and Aide attempting to use Vaseline on a bed sore that was very deep--no wound care); Facility running out of medication required by my sister-in-law related to Type I Diabetes and having to call 911 to send her to the hospital because of it; Facility not calling family when my sister-in-law experienced a fall from a wheelchair; Facility Administrator and Head Nurse unaware of needs of patient (unaware that patient needs are not being addressed); staff reporting that other staff were '…too lazy to bathe….' my sister-in-law who was capable of taking an assisted shower; etc, etc, etc I would rate this facility with 0 stars but it seems that the first star automatically lights whether selected or not.
