Review of Manorcare Health Services - Ruxton

1 Star User Review

As an employee of Manorcare Ruxton (soon to be quitting) I can tell you right now. DO NOT PUT ANYONE YOU EVEN REMOTELY CARE ABOUT LET ALONE LOVE IN THE HANDS OF MANORE CARE!!. Those other reviews must be higher ups aiming to make the company look well. We are understaffed and under paid, so if you think your loved one is getting decent care then you are mistaken. We have mice, roaches, and bad patient care. As long as the family of the patient is around thing will seem fine but the second you leave its back to business.

This is anonymous because my loved one is currently in Manor Care Ruxton for rehab. We are extremely dissatisfied and frustrated with the nursing/aide care there. For example, doctors' orders for pain meds are followed by daytime nurses but not nighttime nurses in the same unit for the same patient, resulting in unnecessary pain for the patient. Med regimens prescribed by doctors are not followed consistent throughout the rehab unit - we made the mistake of changing rooms/wings and had to address this all over again after we changed. We have had to address and re-address this issue at least 8 times in the 2 weeks we have

been there, and my loved one has waited in pain for his medicine. In a urine-soaked bed, no less, because they don't use the disposable pads every other hospital/nursing home uses. Numerous aides are brusque and rude - one aide told me she was glad I was there because my husband was 'special' and I smiled and agreed. After she left the room, he told me she had been mean to him and was very unprofessional. Now I know what she meant by 'special'…she was glad I was there so SHE could tell ME what HE was supposed to do. He is perfectly competent. I do not intervene in my husband's care or suggest options to him unless I have a strong feeling that I should. An aide who was mean to my husband is not going to tell me what to tell him. He and I don't operate that way.

My loved one's doctor, one or two nurses, and the social work director have been very helpful. The ONLY reason we are still there is that the rehab staff are excellent. The PT and OT my loved one is receiving are excellent and are helping him significantly. The staff is even helping him resolve some of the nursing issues so that he can make it through the whole rehab program instead of leaving. If you can make it through the night and don't mind long periods of pain, wet beds, and unanswered call buttons, I recommend the rehab.
