Once a patient is put in here, they are virtually ignored. My mother was placed here with the intentions of receiving acute rehab therapy after a stroke. Very little emphasis is placed on rehab. She is virtually treated as if she is in the nursing home, and not a good nursing home at that. My mother-in-law had a stroke and was in rehab at Piedmont Hospital downtown. They worked with her twice a day, EVERY day. The doctor's told us the longer she just laid there, the harder it would be for her recovery. She has gotten worse since she's been there. We spend from approx. 1:00 in the afternoon until 9:00 at night with our mother. During that time, no one even peeps in to check on her until they bring her medicine around 8:00pm. We paid the very first day she was there to have her hair washed, cut and set. They gladly took the money, but four days later, still no hair cut. She is currently unable to feed herself yet they bring a tray in and leave it. She will drink water, but right now is unable to pick up the water herself either. I feel sure she doesn't get a thing to drink or eat until we show up. Can't imagine what would have to a patient that had no family to come in to take care of them. Please don't send your family to a place like this unless there are no other options. Can't wait to get her out of there!

My mother is a resident at Southland. There seems to be a large turnover in staff and on week-ends, not enough staff to take care of all residents. At times, care is delayed longer than seems right, such as changing briefs, or delayed response to a call light. Mealtimes can be chaotic, especially in getting the trays out in a prompt and orderly manner. Some staff members are more suited to their occupations than others. Some staff members are not suited at all. We have made numerous attempts to correct problems that have arisen, but to little avail. The facility is kept clean and there are different programs to encourage interaction between residents. The facility has some good points, but some things need improvement.

The staff at this facility is vague when asked questions. My aunt was here for a short time and I would NOT reccomend this place for your loved one. My aunt got very sick at this place and no one from my family was called until hours later. They just kept giving her pain meds. My mother found her in a lot of pain. It was obvious that something was not right and my mother called 911. When we got my aunt to the emergency room she was in critical condition and passed away two weeks later. I firmly believe that time was of the essence. If the staff had only recognized that she needed medical attention and we could have gotten her to the hospital a little sooner, her condition would have been a lot less severe. When my mother went back to get her stuff they were rude and very insensitive.

Southland was an answer to prayer for us. We were given a choice of 4 places when my mom was leaving the hospital. The first two we toured I would not have put my dog in. The staff at Southland was very attentive and very caring. My mom was there for 6 weeks and had excellent care. Mom's case worker was a wealth of information and very helpful in making decisions for my mothers future needs.

Please, please do not send your loved ones to Southland Health and Rehab. I found my mother in deplorable conditions after I showed up early from a vacation. Her clothes were soaked in urine. I have no idea how long she had been sitting like that. Her bed made up for the day, reeked of urine. After I made management put their heads down to smell, it got immediately changed. She couldn't feed herself and I found her many times still with a full plate as they were closing up and cleaning up the dining room. They had not helped her to eat, so her full plate of food, stone cold, was getting ready to be thrown away. So much more went on, I don't have room to list it all. I moved her as soon as I could find an opening in another facility. Additionally, one of her best friends was sent to Southland for rehabilitation after an accident, and she died within a few weeks of bed sores. I realize I am just a faceless person on the internet, but you are reading reviews, so it must mean something to you. Please don't send them to Southland. There are far better facilities in the area. Take care.

My grandmother was in this facility for rehab and came out with more problems from bed sores to blood clots and inconsistency with her oxygen treatment. The med situation was a complete disaster. My grandmother's endocronologist had her set-up and well balanced with her meds for her diabetes. The information was provided to Southland and their doctor. Needless to say, they saw no need to even take a look at the information provided by the endocronologist or even contact their office despite her blood sugar levels being excessively high. The arrogance and rudeness of their employees from their intake and finance staff to the dismissive physician and cadre of bad nurses was appalling. My grandmother has alzheimer's so her primary caretaker. her daughter, and family must speak up on her behalf. The family met with that Director and after grinning in our faces and promising to get it together, we saw no improvement. Needless to say we removed her from Southland. Do not put your loved one at this place. Patients are moaning and groaning loudly and ignored by nurses. It's just not a good place. Oh and watch them with your finances. The final icing on the cake is that they overbilled medicare.
