Review of Villa Rancho Bernardo Care Center

1 Star User Review

My family member was a slow walking, often forgetful 90 year old woman who needed assistance in getting dressed and bathing. On our weekly outings for lunch and shopping, she walked slowly with one of us gently holding onto her hand and forearm. She would feed herself, and have both family and the employees laughing at her jokes and quick wit.

The day after our last outing, she had a fall (one of several this year) at her family's home. Although she had suffered no serious injury, she was placed in Villa Rancho Bernardo to build up her strength and improve her balance. She was put in a diaper, medicated, has a anti-biotic resistant UTI. We have not seen her walk or move herself around in the "merry walker" in more than 3 weeks (she's been in there 5 weeks). She is zombie-like when we arrive to see her or she is slumped over, sleeping in her prison chair. She has had unexplained injuries on her face and the more we question her care, the worse she is the next time we see her.

We are told daily by a cheery staff that "Ms.___ took over 200 steps today". They can't get her to take one step while we're there so we believe they are blatantly lying to us. The Charge Nurses are very evasive with direct questions by family members who are listed to receive all of my Aunts' medical info. And the DoN refused to give any info to family because she said that we haven't been added to the "list" since shortly after my Aunt's admittance…. I asked if we had ever been removed from the list by anyone and she said "no, not removed, but your not in her updated charts".

I had spoken to the Ombudsman regarding our concerns of the lack of care with my Aunt, and that's is why I believe we have been treated like this.

If you have an ounce of love or empathy for a family member, in the name of God, please don't put them through this place.
