My mother was not cared for appropriately in this facility. She had a stage one bedsore when she arrived and left the facility with a stage 4 bedsore. The nursing care was substandard, especially on the weekends. She was left for days without dressing changes and since I live in another state was unable to check on her daily. The supposed medicaid expert never turned in any paperwork even though she told my sister-in-law repeatedly that she did. When day 20 of medicare arrived, they couldn't wait to push her out the door bedsore or not! This place looks nice, but the care is unacceptable as is the customer service.

This is the second time my Mom has been in the Consulate this place is the best rehab home in Polk County ,they have helped my mom very well and when she was having trouble they sent her to the hospital fast. I spend a lot of time there with her, the staff is A+++++. I have no second thoughts about them I know they will treat her well my mom is very head strong and out spoken I know if they can put up with her and treat her like she's part of the family I can rest without worrying about her. I gave them 2 stars because they actually did a wonderful job with my Moms physical recovery. However, my Mother is more then that! Mentally and emotionally she was a wreck. My Mother was being heavily medicated to the point it was making her an emotional wreck which isn't hard since she has Dementia. I will say this…..consulate did a wonderful job in insuring her leg healed and totally ignored her emotional well being. Certain staff members were very good and some were not so good! You find this everywhere you go. This is my thoughts on it, Consulate of Winter Haven needs to treat their Patients as a whole person and not just the injured part. Healing my Mothers injury ,but letting her mentally break down is not healing ! Also when I called to get information a few members of the staff blew me off. Which red flagged me to be concerned.

We chose this facility after careful consideration (including reading the reviews here) and was sorely disappointed in my mother's stay. Appearance was the only positive thing we found here. There was no warm fuzzy feeling in this place at all. The staff were not as friendly and personable as one would expect when it comes to patient care. Mother felt like she was dumped there and no one took the time to talk to her about her stay and what to expect as far as the facility (meal times, visitor policy, etc). This was her first time in such a place and she felt lost. There were a few specific issues that were immediately addressed when brought to the attention of Administration and for that I was grateful. But overall the experience was not a pleasant one.

Wonderful staff and facility. Very clean, professional, caring, and warming. I couldn't have hoped for my mother to be in a better place. I was very heartbroken when I was unable to give her the care and attention she needed. Thankfully, Astoria has been there for her and the staff does so much for her. She's very happy being here, it's wonderful to know she is in caring hands and happy.

Either they don't have supplies or they are expired. And that's include tube feeding nutrient. Poor food prep. If resident don't like food, and call the kitchen for something else, they always say they don't have it and that resident is forced to stay like that. Wound care either not documented or under classified so it doesn't show people have bed sites, and that is not from the nurses, management is to blame. They have an ongoing case of scabies in their memory unit that call rash so they don't have to report them to the health department, meanwhile the residents are itching like crazy and

I went in after surgery for therapy and was put in a long term care wing without an electric bed. Not good for someone that has to move around as much as possible.

I did not receive the therapy that I needed and they did not seem to have a plan for it. This was the second experience I had there within a year and the care was so different that you would've thought it was a completely different place. Did they change management? No consistency in the food. One day it was very good and the next inedible. At three in the morning when I rang for my pain medication and was told they could only give me half the dose because they ran out I went for 12

hours without any. Couldn't wait to go home!

My father is the most important person in my life. I didn't make the decision to have him put into an assisted living facility lightly. It wasn't an easy decision, because no place is good enough for him, but he has been living there for over a year now and his quality of life has drastically improved! The mere fact that he is now living with others who are going through the same struggles as him has had a huge impact. We are very pleased! Two thumbs up!

I can't believe the reviews I'm reading. I have had both of my parents there in the past and could not have been happier with their care. The staff was professional and friendly. They were very patient with my father who could be difficult and resistant to care , as a result he is now living independantly. The hospital had told us there was no hope. I would not hesitate to put my loved ones there again if the need arises.

This facility has seen a lot of changes in the past few months. The facility itself looks a lot nicer than it used to and walking around, there are new staff members that seem as though they actually care. I wanted to put in a review because I honestly believe this facility has gotten so much better. I have been happy with the level of customer serviced received here, but have had my reservations about referring someone because of the experiences of others. I feel so much more comfortable referring someone now. The new management seem to be working, as the facility seems in my eyes, to be so much better.

My mom was admitted at Astoria for rehab after a surgery. The grounds are beautiful and most of the staff is very nice and polite. With any rehab/nursing facility, I had to sometimes remind the staff of what mom needed to make her comfortable. I also made sure to follow up with each nurse as shifts changed and the unit charge nurse as well just in case something I communicated slipped through the crakcs. I would recommend doing this at any facility. Overall I was pleased with the patient care, service and amenities.

Waited 3 hours before reporting a fall, resulting in a hip fracture, to family. Had to wait for transport from Orlando to be taken to a Polk County hospital. Facility is not locked at night as they report it will be. We have visited several times have 9:00pm and have been able to gain access as late as midnight through an open door, was asked by a staff member where we were going. Loved one covered in dried feces even though staff reported they had checked 30 minutes prior.

While there are several people on staff who have gone out of their way to assist and are very dedicated to their patients. I believe we got the showboat tour. Things are not as they were presented.

I recently stayed at the rehab for physical therapy, and I found this place to be a great experience. All staff were pleasant and helpful for my full recovery. The place not only smelled clean but everyone always working on maintaining the clean appearance. I would recommend this place to anybody who needs the help of professionals.

My husband has been in this facility for two years. His health has been improving and he has been able to visit home more. He has recently been harassed and threatened 3 different times by the Director, Mr. Elliot. Harassed: "Where are you going? Aren't you going home a lot? You have got to be over your days!" Threatened: "You are going to loose your room!" My husband is in a facility because of blood pressure control. Does this sound like a way to help his medical problems to you? On a good note he has an awesome caring nurse: Legenia on first shift.

When I was sent to Consulate for rehab, I thought I had been dropped into hell. They were totally unprepared for me…no walker…told to get to bathroom on my own (on a hip that had been replaced four days ago)..there was no raised toilet seat …the bandage came off my incision and was left uncovered for 18 and 1/2 hours I was told the chance of infection was minimal..three times someone came in to tell me why they didn't have time to rebandage the incision. The compression things to prevent blood clots were never hooked up..they sat on my bedside table…I was woken up at 4 am to go and be weighed. The physical therapists were professional and knowledgeable, but the other 23 hours were unbearable. Praise God, I got out of there and came home where the chance of infection was Zero.

Week end staff thinks that they are there to socialize with other staff and spend to much time talking about personal issues not patient issues. They like to keep everyone in bed as it is easier than caring for patients that are up. Response to patient alarms is very slow. Some staff during the week was very good with my mother the PT , OT and speech staff where very good but they do not make up for the over all short comings.

If you care for your loved one please research this place, stay with them check to make sure they got their meds, my father went in to get a little bit of therepy for his walking and the snotty nurse withheld his medication and almost killed him i got him out and pray we can fix what they have done , he came. Home. Not able. To walk and retaining so much fluid his legs are so swollen he cannot walk trust me the nurses let patients who blood sugar is. 440. Wait for hours before. Getting them insulin. Poor care bad attitudes terrible communication lazy staff very dissappointed didnt even help us get to the car just stood and watched.

Hi, I recently visited consulate healthcare of winter haven to see my aunt who was a patient there. I have to tell you this facility is a hazardous facility. When I walked through the double doors on the side of the building were my aunt was there was a memo asking visitors to go to the nurses’ station before visiting a patient because of the flu season. Well I visited the nurses’ station and found that to be a lie. There had been an outbreak of a stomach virus and everyone was ill including the staff. I went to my aunts room on the Sub acute side of the building and as I entered the room my aunt 72yrs old is sitting up in the bed with vomit all over her, I asked a staff to help her and she bit my head off saying there all sick including the staff and she will be there when she can, then I went to the bathroom to wash my hands after trying to help her myself and there was no soap to wash my hands or paper towels to dry them, that was very disgusting. When the staff enters the room after a while, as she started to get things together to clean my aunt, there weren’t any gloves either. The staff was very unhappy and openly discussing the new management decisions, and in my opinion there decisions is the reason this virus got so out of hand. First the staff told me that the company is stealing there sick time if they call off sick they are getting paid for 8hrs but the new administrator and management takes 12hrs so the staff is being punished for calling out sick. Therefore they try to stay at work sick and spreading infectious viruses because there scared of being robbed of their sick time if they call out sick. This facility has really gone downhill since this new administrator come aboard, you can feel the tension when you walk through the building, who would want to do business with a company that put their staff and patients in hazardous situation to save a dollar, that is unfair to the patients and the staff, I had my cousin transfer my aunt to spring lake a block away where they are actually considering long term care and she is well taken care of. Consulate doesn’t care about its staff so how can they care about your loved one and steal from their staff, doesn’t supply the staff with adequate important materials like soap, paper towels, and gloves to do their job. They should close this building down before they kill someone by trying to save a dollar.
