Review of Sterling Care Riverside

Danger, Danger! Do NOT leave anyone you care about here. Even the rehab patients are neglected. After experiencing the lack of concern that flows rampantly at Lorien Riverside,I had my mother moved to another facility.

Mom was not lucid enough to realize that falling was a danger to her. She fell 9 times during her stay. At first I was willing to believe it was all her. Then after insisting that bed alarms, body alarms and chair alarms be used, and finding no improvement, it got ugly. The alarms don't work if not turned on, are disconnected from the patient or left attached to the bed when the patient isn't in it. Several long, face to face talks with the assistant nursing supervisor were fruitless.

The final straw? Finding Mom laying diagonal on the bed with her head on the bedrail. Unable to sit upright on her own,in a daze and not really aware she was being spoken to, blue lines around her mouth and obviously wheezing. Immediately went to the nurses station and relayed what I found. My Mothers aide said "Oh,she has been like that all day…in fact she was like that yesterday." It seems the drastic change in Moms' condition did not warrant the aid reporting to the nurses, the nurses who medicated her didn't notice either. Mom was admitted to the hospital with septicemia, pneumonia and a bladder infection. Now at another facility that has a much better, caring, intelligent staff.

Just a side note, I visited my mother no less than every other day. Never, Never think for a second that your loved one is safe anywhere.Be vigilant and keep checking on them and don't be afraid to stand up for what is their right to compassionate, intelligent, and quality care.
