Review of Patuxent River Health and Rehabilitation Center

This facility should be put on the Maryland Watch List or immediate harm -- the weekend and night staff are rude, uncaring, cold, heartless, unprofessional, mean. The tour guide woman only shows the side of the facility that is kept clean. They put my daughter in a dirty room with a filthy bathroom. The room looked like a cheap motel room. I was heartbroken when I arrived and saw her laying in that room. I cried because I felt so deceived by the tour. It was a pristine example of a bait and switch. The night nurse was dreadful, uncaring, horrible person. The night staff told me that the night nurse was lazy. She did not want to come into the room to address my concerns. I had to use disinfectant towels on the floor and the surface areas and the door knobs. I am attempting to get my daughter removed. The next morning when I saw the breakfast she was being served, I cried and cried. It looked like food you would serve to someone you hate. The 90 year old woman in the bed next to my daughter was put in that filthy bathroom and I timed how long they left her there unattended. It was nearly 30 minutes! I am reporting the facility to the Dept. of Health because of the condition of the bathroom and the fact that the entire weekend (I spent the night there Friday and Saturday) no one came to clean the filthy bathroom. There was a dirty plunger on the floor on top of a dirty black towel. I took photos of the staff bathroom and the visitor bathroom (which the tour guide showed me) -- they were clean -- but my daughter's bathroom was disgusting. The night staff and the day staff did not wash their hands before entering and leaving her room. When I confronted them, they became annoyed. DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONE COME HERE. IT IS A HELL HOLE. 0 OUT OF 5 STARS

I recently had taken my mom away from Patuxent River. She was treated very badly. My mom almost died a couple of times there. She was found half conscious at the dining room table when I arrived there. I told the nurse what the bloody is going on here. My mom is almost out of it. She told me she called the doctor. She had to be rushed to Laurel Hospital across the street. They were very horrible to her as well. On Halloween she got sick again. They wanted to take her to Laurel Hospital. Thankfully my mom went to a better hospital. I recently put her in another facility. At least my mom's new facility is far more friendlier and the nurses answered my questions without rolling their eyes at me. The physical therapist at Patuxent yelled at my mom when she told them that she doesn't feel well. They never had taken into account that she has a lot of health issues. I am so glad that my brother and I agreed to get her out of there or otherwise she would be six feet under. Do not consider going to this facility.
