Nothing but professional! Loved the rehab and was able to come home fully healed from my surgery.

I had a great experience at The Grove of Evanston. The staff made sure that my needs were met and the environment feels like home.

Where do I start. This was the worst hospital ever! Unprofessional and mean spirited staff all around! The Hospital needs to be closed. I could barely move when I first got there and i was going in for a full body CT scan and could noy transfer myself from one bed to the next the nurse became irritated and angry and snactched the sheet from under me and flipped me over. All I have to say is she better be glad that I was weak because I would have slapped her and the outcome might be different! The I saw a million doctors (anyone who's ever been in a hospital knows that this is the norm) but the main Doctor that was assigned to me was also cold and mean. The crazy part is the bill. I had to report these crooks to my insurance company because they claimed to have done things that NEVER occured. They did'nt count on me remembering or me having family there most of the time. Everthing was just horrible and the faciliity needs to be closed!

My wife and I were so impressed by their facility and the atmosphere is more than enough to relax us while waiting for our scheduled appointment.

My friend was getting physical therapy: she was not put in the appropriate sling for movement and fell when being moved. This is basic, basic knowledge of how to help a patient move during therapy and it was not done correctly.

They just got this really cool virtual rehab program in their therapy Gym. My grandfather as smiled or been this active in years. Thank you GE!

I had someone get admitted after a horrible accident at home. The facility has this new virtual rehab system that motivated him in therapy and made it fun. The staff did an incredible job and he is now home doing wonderful. Thank you to all the incredible staff!!!

The new Adminstrator is great. He really turned this place around into what a sub-acute rehab facility should be. The private rooms are wonderful and my grandfather received therapy every single day.

My Father died at that facility before it changed names to the Grove. He was of sound mind and took charge of all of his financial affairs there. My father was charged $140 PER Day at that time, only to be served cold food, cold tea, and fishsticks for dinner most nights. They do NOT have a Automated External Defribulator at this facility. If they had one, he may still be alive today. They really need one . I tried to make it a law, introduced the bill to the House, only to have Mr. Kirk Riva shoot it down!

terrible health care. unstable staffing. less than one star.

My 92 year old father was admitted from Evanston hospital (minor infection) for two weeks of intensive physical therapy to strengthen his leg that was broken in the summer.
Our first night there one of the CNA"s proceeded to faint on my seated brother. This was right after putting my dad in the bed.
Later dinner was brought,in the form of three mounds, cream, green and pink puréed mush. According to the menu it was taco filling, rice and I don't know.
My dad was on a regular diet,no eating issues. But we were informed that the hospital sent orders for a puréed and thickened diet. We requested regular food. The next day again mashed crap! My brother and I began to bring meals with us daily.
Each dad my father lost weight and grew weaker. We also inquired to his physical therapy and were told that my dad said he didn't want to do it. We argued that was what he was there for,it's not a choice.
Within the week, they administered a three day calorie count. If they were feeding him,it would be unnecessary to test for calorie intake. Again we requested he be put on a regular diet.
The facility kept talking about choking hazards, pneumonia etc. he's been eating normally. The next call was from the doctor on call asking about inserting a feeding tube.
Okay we were done. It was the New Years holiday,so we arranged for him to be taken home on Wednesday.
My brother and I went to the facility. I was carry my dads to go bag and my brother brought in the wheelchair we used at home. He walked past the receptionist and at least three nurses with OUR wheelchair.
We went to dress my father. Several staff members went past the room, nurses, aids, and the director of nursing. We were there over an hour before any one of record came in to find out what was going on.
The administrator and director of nursing came in to complain about not being notified and paperwork.
We let them know they were being informed now that we were leaving. They wanted to discuss it,ask if we talked with the doctor, what was the problem. My response was "systematic starvation" and the lack of physical therapy that he was in for.
They brought out a stack of papers that should have been completed on admission. We finished with that and went out to the lobby to wait for the Medicar.
The receptionist, the same one my brother past when he came in,commented that the wheelchair belonged to them. I AGAIN informed them that the wheelchair was brought from home and belonged to us.
My dad was loaded into the van, again the receptionist came out to confront us about the wheelchair. I asked our driver to take us home. The receptionist said " I can't let you leave."
Okay at this point,I've told them twice the chair is ours. Angry I told the young man to call the police. We are going home. The idiot placed himself in front of the van to keep us from leaving.
This is stupid. I and my brother both have been in management a combined 20 plus years, you work in a bank and are being robbed you give them the money. Mail carriers when being robbed of mail, you hand it over. Why risk life and limb for a wheelchair.
Finally the director of nursing comes out again, I'm so close to punching her in the face its not funny. Again walking to my side of the van,she asks me if the wheelchair belongs to the facility. AGAIN,I inform her that the chair belongs to my dad, we brought it from home, past your receptionist and three or four nurse. Which time did you not get that piece of information.
Don't let the facade fool you. The first floor are fully insured patients-- clean nice setup. On the other floors the smell of urine/ decay stands out. Staff takes as long as an hour to answer calls for bathroom help. They do not listen to families, and practice systematic starvation to weaken patients making their stays longer or terminal at work.
There is a lovely woman in the physical therapy department who is worth her weight in gold. Her name is Jessica. She is full of pride in her job, compassion for her patients and a sweet spirit. I hope she finds another place to showcase her abilities.

This was without a doubt the most horrid facility I have ever had the misfortune of sending my loved one! This was not our first choice when my grandmother had a stroke a year ago but it was closer to us so that someone was always with her. ALL that glitters isnt gold. Sure they've remodeled and painted. Just to keep up appearances. Once you hit the elevator…the 2nd floor and up smells like nothing but urine. They leave residents lying in they're own filth until the family requests that they be changed. Not only that but the staff there is incredibly incomptent and unprofessional monsters. They give out the wrong medicine, solid foods to stroke patients under liquid diets and are very lax with therapy schedules. We were there for 3 and 1/2 weeks after harassing the mentally challenged administrator and head of PT before we could even see ONE therapist. I would advise you to not even contimplate sending anyone you care about to this place unless you can spend all day everyday there ensuring they're proper care and safety. My sisters and both my mom and dad practically lived there for those long 2 months. Its sad when the residents who've been reduced to live there have to whisper to you once the nurses walk away that " this place is terrible and get to get grandma out now". This whole building just needs to be demolished completely. There's no potential for improvement. When you have staff that dont care paired with administration that wont care you end up with The Grove….

The Nursing Staff at the Grove of Evanston is beyond horrible. The quality of Care and Good Service is desperatley lacking from this facility. This is a total reflection on the Adminstrator how they can hire such low caliber of people. Nurse C does not need to be in the health care profession that involves her to take care of patients and interact with the public. She definitley does not know how to carry herself in a professional manner. I was appalled at her temperment, her tone was very harsh and she hung up the phone on me. When I tryed to call back to check on my loved one she wouldn't answer the phone the phone rang and rang. I have never experienced such behavior from a "proffessional" in my life!! When I asked to speak to the Head Nurse, C told me that the head nurse does not want to speak with me tonight and I would have to call back in the morning and she hung up the phone on me again. I asked myself a question what level of care can this individual possibly give my family member when her behavior is out of Control.
I have called many times in the past since my family member has been in their care, and never encountered such an irresponsible, cold hearted, nice nasty person like nurse C. I hope this review puts a stop to this treatment and quality of care that is demostrated at this present time. I hope that the Admisntrator wakes up and realizes that family members, patients and the community will not just stand by and take this treatment and bladient disrespect!
Just by reading the other reviews posted on their website this type of care goes on regulary and management is sitting nonchalntly by allowing this to go on!!

I could not agree more. the administrator needs to be replaced. she cannot possibly represent teh image corporate wants to project. she is immature, incompetent and wholly inappropriate.

First, I would not recommend this facility to anyone. It may look nice, but in my opinion, the care is extremely poor. I see the facility as an example of why for-profit health care is problematic. I think it's interesting that there are quite a few ratings, most for either 1 or 5 stars. Some people have suggested that staff/former staff have written either favorable or unfavorable reviews.
I am a former staff member. I wasn't fired & I don't have sour grapes- I was one of the replacements for one of the many staff members who were fired. I quit because I decided that I could not work for such a facility in good conscience. I am in the healthcare field because I want to help others, and I felt that the environment was so bad that I could not effectively do my job. It seemed to me that a LOT of money, time, and effort was being spent on lavish decorations and boosting occupancy, while only the bare minimum was being done when it came to actually caring for the people who were there. This made me very sad and uncomfortable.
I'm not saying that there's nothing good about the facility - there are some excellent staff and now, some pretty awesome rehab equipment. But overall I don't think this redeems what I perceived as a general lack of concern from administration toward patients and residents (and yes, I was also bothered by administration's attitude toward staff, but that's not why I left and not why I'm writing this review.) That attitude is reflected in everything related to patient care. Please research before placing a loved one anywhere! Read reviews, medicaid ratings, go and visit, talk to people, *really* get a feeling for the place, and above all, VISIT your loved ones!

If your business is set up so that the administrator is the first impression for potential clients, then perhaps you should consider hiring a grown up. I have never been so offended by the attitude and approach of a supposed professional.

Most of the people that work at this facility are only there for their paychecks. Patients are treated with NO dignity and no caring. I would rather die in the street then have to go here. I can't even understand how this place is in existance. I could go on and on, but will not because they don't even deserve a review. Only doing it for other people who read this. DO NOT SEND A LOVED ONE HERE!!!! The rating automatically came up 2 stars. I disagree. They don't even deserve 1 star. The only caring and nice person I have come in contact with is the lady that sits at the front desk when you first walk in. Shame on you to treat your patients the way you do. Next step would be considered abuse.

I had my mother here for rehab and her stay was nothing but superb! The nursing staff was very attentive to her, the conceierge services were excellent and the therapy was beyond spectacular! After my 87 year old mother fell and broke her femur, she was up and walking within 2 weeks and went home in 4 1/2 weeks! She is almost back to her prior level of functioning! Her orthopedic physician recommended this rehabilitation facility and I am glad he did!

I love the new construction! The place looks great.

i completely agree with the review written before this one… except i don't believe the staff would write such glowing reviews either. I think they were written by administration. from what i saw, the staff don't look like they're treated so hot either, and while i agree that some of the nurses seem indifferent, i think overall the staff is overworked and probably not given support or resources they need. Not that that's an excuse for professionals to not provide quality care.

the facility looks great inside and outside because of the renovation and decoration but overall the quality is very poor . not highly recommended . the administration are okay , nice to talk with but they got favoritism so be sure u always visit your parents or grandparents there . morning shift and night shift is terrible , they only change diaper once . . 2 out 10 nurses are nice . allot of nurses and CNA quit cause of the poor consideration

This is a great facility, and I would highly recommend it. The administrator is very hands-on and attentive, and the whole staff made me feel very welcome and in good hands. Thank you for making my time there the best that it could possibly be!
