We took mom to Prestonwood Rehab for rehab after a surgery. Prestonwood sales staff told us about their great 5 star ratings, their high Nurse to Patient ratio, and their intense three hours of rehab per day. On the surface they match up with the very BEST facilities out there! Unfortunately beneath the surface is a very chilling reality. Three days into mom’s stay, the surveillance camera we had installed in the room, CLEARLY shows a Prestonwood staffer coming into the room while mom was out. The Prestonwood employee checks behind her, then she proceeds to open the closet where mom’s personal belonging are kept. The Prestonwood employee emerges with mom’s wallet/purse. She hides the wallet behind the folder she is holding, then proceeds to rifle through it looking for cash, cards, etc. Coins begin dropping, and the Prestonwood Rehab Employee is picking up the money as she continues to calmly check behind her. She stands back up and then reveals the wallet that is behind the folder. It is our mother’s wallet! The Prestonwood Employee soon discovers that the purse has nothing much of value, as we had already removed any valuables from the purse. The Prestonwood Employee is seen placing the wallet back into the closet and she leave the room. Fast forward 15 minutes… this same Prestonwood Employee has come back into the room. She calmly sits down and proceeds to conduct a survey with mom and a relative, as if nothing has transpired. Obviously, this was not the first time for this Prestonwood Predator to do this. This evil person is the worst of the worst! She is a predator who targets our most vulnerable, with no moral conscious.
We showed the video evidence to the management of Prestonwood Rehab. It turns out that this predator is actually Prestonwood’s “Director of Activities”. We were told this issue would be addressed immediately. We asked Prestonwood Management for complete confidentiality, to insure the safety of our mother. The next day, we come to the room and were surprised to find a sign on the door of the room that states…”AN ELECTRONIC MONITORING DEVICE MONITORING THIS ROOM” (With a picture of a camera). So much for confidentiality!
Just a day or two before this occurred, we had participated in a meeting regarding a rehab plan of action for mom. The management had scheduled a progress meeting in two weeks. A couple of days after our reporting the abuse of this Prestonwood Director, we were called in for a meeting. We were informed by Prestonwood management that they had done all they could for our mother and suggested that we take mom to a different facility immediately. They stated that they could only provide 30 minutes of therapy per day and she needed more. What happened to the THREE Hours of intense therapy. This was obviously retaliation by Prestonwood for finding them out! GOOD NEWS - We moved mom to a REAL Rehab facility and after another week of actual REHAB, we were able to take her home, where she is doing well. Obviously, patients are welcome at Prestonwood Rehab, as long as they do not need rehab, or find Prestonwood Rehab employees abusing your loved one. Avoid Prestonwood Rehab!

We are so grateful that this customer brought the issue to our attention. It helped us protect our other residents by alerting us to the specific employee's actions. The information allowed us to deal with the employee appropriately and we appreciate it.
We also reported the incident to our State Regulators (DADS). They came to the facility and did their own investigation. They determined that the incident did occur and that the facility was not at fault, but took appropriate measures when the incident was brought to the facility's attention. Our regulators require that a sign be posted outside the resident' s room when we become aware of surveillance. We complied.
