  • Great Plains Nursing and Rehabilitation Dumas, Texas 79029

Great Plains Nursing and Rehab Center is going down hill rapidly. They don't really seem to care about the patients. They are cutting staff hours and not providing the residents with the services and care they need. A nurse is suppose to check the Alzheimer's unit and each floor every 15 minutes. I have been there on regular bases for 45-60 minutes at a time if not longer and have not seen at all. The only time you see them is to give meds. Please look elsewhere before choosing them.

This review in concerning the Alzhemiers Unit

This nursing home is currently under a state of reorganization and I have seen great improvement.

The staff is helpful and friendly

The unit is clean and building improvments are on going

The food is very appealing to the appetite and is very good

Snacks are provided through out the day

    Drinks are always available

Improvement is still needed in the Alzheimers Unit.

More nurses aids are needed at all times. Currently there is one - un-satisfactory to care for all the residents in this area.

Better communication between the nurses and nurses aids, especially between shift changes. I have asked how my loved one is doing when they are having health issues and really dont get an answer, for example "I'm not sure, He/She have been like this since I came in at 2pm" and it is now it's 4 or 5pm and they don't have details.

More help is needed when feeding the residents as some of them need help feeding themselves and are unable to vocalize their needs. It's had to had feed several residents and care for the others needs at the same time. Food get's cold.

The aids are great on the most part, they work hard, but there are a few new ones that tend to act like they are just there to babysit. I'm sure this will improve as they get more experience.

While improvements are needed, as long I as can see that they are working on these areas and tring to address the needs of the residents as their most important priority (which they are). I will continue to us Great Plains Nursing and Rehab. and appreciate all they do for our loved ones and our commuinity.
