We as a family have had more than one member who resided at Durham-Hensley over a span of many years. As I remarked to the owner at one point, this is the closest you can get to being at home if you can not actually reside in your own home any longer. No one wants to have to leave the confines of their own home; but, our health and mental issues quite often change that. The staff do honestly care about you not only as a patient; but, often look to you as "part of the family". Families and patients are listened to by all the staff. The outsourcing is done with much thought for the family and the resident! Everything can not always be perfect; but, it is not perfect at home either! So, just talk to them if you have issues; they (all the staff are good listeners) will listen and try to help you resolve any issue that you might have. We appreciate having them in this community.

I would like to see some kind of alarm in the rooms that notified personnel when the temp is below 70 degrees in the summer and similar set up for winter time . Room temps are not regulated well. All rooms have individual heat and air units for the residents to self control room temperatures. Which would be good if they are capable. Bed fast, non-speaking, and mentally non capable residents need better management in this area.

CNA's should be open to family suggestions with a smile, and not defensive. I hope anyone who leaves the AC turned up all the way and goes home has the same done to them when they are not capable to communicate that they are cold. No wonder there is so many pneumonia situations. Two deaths in the same room same weekend. HMMM!

This is the best home in the area! The staff are friendly, caring, and helpful. All the residents I saw seam to be clean, well groomed, and well taken care of. One of the things I love about this place is how clean the place is if you have been in very many nursing homes the one thing about them is they all have that smell. Well not this facility there is not a bad smell. It has a very good smell through out the building and I love that. I would highly recommend this nursing home to anyone and have recommended to many.

I found several shortcomings at this nursing home. They are as follows: 1) My father was there for approximately 2 months following hip surgery. He was there so long because he got 2 infections while at their facility which delayed and hindered his recovery 2) The scheduling of doctor's appointments was poorly handled. On one occasion I was transported to Kingsport, TN when the actual appointment was in Johnson City, TN. On another occasion, they informed 1 day prior to an appointment that a an appointment was scheduled for the next day. 3) Since my father was infected twice while at their facility, he had an emergency room visit to the Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. The nursing home refused to pay for the ambulance services for the visit, sticking my father with a $1200 bill for their carelessness!!! 4) On top of all this, several labeled articles of clothing were lost while my father was at this facility and were not replaced by the facility. As a mater of fact the facility practically demanded that I replace them! To continually replace clothing lost by a facility's carelessness is a no win situation. This facility cares more about itself than it does about its patients. In summary, I would think more than twice before placing anyone I cared about at this facility.
