My grandfather was recently in Heartland for rehab. He fell on Sunday night. I'm not sure if anyone was randomly checking on him. The nurse heard his phone ringing and came in to check on him. My grandma was calling him and couldn't get him on the phone. The nurse answered the phone and told her he fell and she would call her back. The nurse never called back. The next morning around 7 am my grandma was calling and another nurse answered his in room phone. My grandma told her he had fell the night before and she was concerned. I immediately left work to check on him. I passed an ambulance on my way, and it was for my grandfather. I rang the bell and no one let me in. The nurses in the hall could clearly see me. They immediately opened the door when EMS arrived and I rushed in behind them. My grandfather passed away a week later. My concerns are 1.Why didn't they call us back the night before? 2. Why wouldn't they open the door for me? If I had been informed of him falling the night before would they let me in? Thankfully my grandfather chose to go there for rehab and we didn't decide to put him there. I firmly believe their neglect at Heartland brought his death on much quicker. Please beware before sending a loved one here for rehab
