My father is a COPD patient and recently fell and fractured his hip. After going through surgery his hospice facility recommended this facility for rehab. From day one my brother and I had nothing but problems and huge concerns for our dad's care. The day he was admitted I was there with him. He was past due for a breathing treatment and very out of breath. It took 45 minutes and me going into the hall way 3 times to insist they get him either a rescue inhaler or a nebulizer NOW. After a week of being very unhappy with his care and lack of knowledge when we asked the nurse and RCM questions about his care, we made an appointment with the Director of Nursing. We arrived 5 minutes before our meeting to find out that she was not there and they could not get a hold of her. They referred us to the floor nurse who was very snotty. She informed us that dad had not signed for information to be released to us. We asked her to do so. When we got to his room and told him what was happening he was angry. The nurse came in and dad told her to tell us anything we wanted to know. She kicked us out of the room and shut the door. We were not contacted by the Director of nursing for another 5 days and only to be told that dad is stable. The service only continued to be unsatisfactory. We consulted with his hospice providers (which he was going back on immediately after being discharged from here) and his prior primary care physician (who had not seen him in a year). They all agreed that he was stable enough to get him discharged and back to Cherrywood Village and on hospice. His care since being home is 100% improved and we, his family, can relax again knowing he is in good hands. If you care at all about your family members care, we recommend you look elsewhere.

It is very unfortunately that this family had this bad experience. I can testify that the staff is excellent and provide and excellent care. I had my husband at Powellhurst and the care was fantastic! I was informed daily for clinical updates and/or any new/changes in treatment. He was able to select his food menu with lots of choices, directed his care for showers and so on, and his care was individualized to his routine/likes. The experience was so great that I came later for my skilled/rehab care. The staff is very knowledgeable, the department head members including the Director of Nursing are very involved with the overall care. I highly recommend Powellhurst Post Acute as your rehab facility. Great team!
