  • Continuing Healthcare of Shadyside Shadyside, Ohio 43947

My mother was there for 3 months. In that time she went from a happy, loving, friendly, outgoing person to sleeping most of the day, keeping to herself, and not eating or talking to anybody. She was first sent to the hospital for complete dehydration; was disoriented and not responsive. Her water was on a tray that was pushed across the room and she could not get out of bed to get it.. Her walker was also across the room. In attempting to get to the bathroom (because there was no response), she fell; a broken nose, black and blue face, stitches in her forehead and a sore arm…again to the hospital. They lost her glasses and gave her someone else's and she could not see. I complained numerous times, to no avail. I then took her home and employed full time care…she got up, dressed, showered, ate, and watched TV and thoroughly enjoyed her time at home until she passed away.

My dad was a patient at Shadyside Care Center before he died. There is no way anybody can tell me that a person can go from assisted living to dead in less than three weeks. It's true that my dad had multiple health problems at age 84, including COPD, emphysema, asbestiosis, and leukemia, but even at that, he was still able to live at home with my mother. Then one day he fell and broke two ribs. He was in the hospital for two weeks recuperating from the fall and pneumonia. He was then sent to the Shadyside Care Center to receive physical therapy so that he could get strong enough to go home again. The neglect was horrible. The staff would make him wait half and hour after he would ring the buzzer for the bathroom, they let him lie in his bed with no sheets or blankets and NO oxygen, they wouldn't change his oxygen tank out until it was completely empty, and last but not least, they did nothing about the sepsis that finally killed him three weeks after he was admitted there. I wouldn't let my dog be a patient there and I had no say over where my mother chose.

By far one of the worst nursing homes out there. I had to work my clinicals there while I was in an STNA program and I was appalled at what I had seen. Rooms were dirty (employees didn't picked up after themselves so rooms stayed a mess till house keeping made their round) and residents received poor care. Myself and one of my class mates walked into a room that was filthy and the resident had been sitting in the same spot since breakfast, with dried urine covered pants. Call lights were ignored by many of the staff. Most staff wouldn't hold any conversation with the residents and gave off a high amount of attitude. The residents I worked with were some of the nicest people I had ever met and it pained me to see them treated so poorly.

Excellant facility, clean and odor free. Menu selection great, cafe style dining. Survey results from ODH very good. Always someone is willing to listen. Staff is pleasant and friendly. They are concerned with what the resident wants. Both my parents were in this facility and I would highly recommend Shadyside Care Center to anyone.
