Very disappointed with this new facility. There is no provisions for families to eat with their loved ones. You can not buy a meal from the facility, for the holidays to eat with your loved one. They discourage this at other times also. They say there is no room for family members to sit. The other end of the dining room area could be rearranged and tables could be set up for special occasions but this seems to not be an option. You can bring in food before or after everyone in the facility has eaten but there is no way to heat up the food. If your family member is not able to leave the facility you are not going to share a meal with them or a party for them. You can use the dining areas for approximately 2 hours in the middle of meal times. Why would a new building not have a special room to hold events for residents to share time with their families? This makes things very difficult for out of town family members who have limited time. I would recommend another facility that is more family friendly.

Mostly the issue is with CNA staffing. The turnover of CNAs at this facility is insane. Many do not stay very long. They grow frustrated and quit. Continuity of care is not good because CNAs are moved around from group to group. This seems to be due to the way scheduling is done…not sure….though there does seem to be some effort to keep CNAs working in the same groups. The movement of CNAs is a frustration to family members who try to maintain relationships with the CNAs that care for their loved one. This relationship is important because there are many things to know about each patient so that care is optimal, but, when CNAs are assigned groups that they are not familiar with then they do not know about the many little details of caring for the individual patient. It is hard to hold CNAs accountable for the care given (or lack thereof) when they are moved from group to group. For instance, oral hygiene and finger/toe nail care is sorely lacking. Also, the facility should make the group sizes and locations more manageable for CNAs. On the other hand CNAs need to be held more INDIVIDUALLY responsible for the care that each one is giving. There is not much of a system for checking the work of CNAs. This facility really needs to improve CNA issues so that the patients get the best care possible and CNAs can really have a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work (which most are greatly desiring though some do not care). More focus should be given to this issue because it is the level of CNA care that makes or breaks a facility.

Family member at this facility for 3.5 years, I would love to have her elsewhere. There has always been a staff shortage, even though I have been told that the staffing is stellar….the newest management buzz word. A new facility will open soon, and after 35 years, it it needed. The current one is showing it's age.It is a shame that more staff cannot be hired, considering the time consuming and very important job they have. There are good staff members and bad staff members, as there are in any business. The new place will have the same problems if more help is not hired. Perhaps it's reputation is preceeding it.

Our mom has been there for 2.5 years. They seem somewhat short-staffed at times, not enough CNA's. The more professional staff are excellent. The facility is dated, but extremely clean. Seldom is there a noticeable odor. A brand new facility will open this Spring. We think our mom gets very good care there. We visit almost daily and feel confident and grateful to the kind people who work there.
