The Grove of Valhalla Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is located on grounds that during the warm weather is a great place to take your love one outside to enjoy the beautiful scenery. When you walk in the doors it is a lovely environment where I warmly greeted and shown around afterwards I was so impressed that I decide that I would go with The Grove of Valhalla Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after previously seeking a place for my mother’s rehabilitation at a few other nursing homes in Westchester. This one stood out the most.
My mother has been cared for well from the professional staff to the nurses and aides and is in the process of going home soon. I was glad that the decision to go with The Grove of Valhalla Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was made and would recommend it.
A special recognition to Veronica Brooks-Gordon the Medicaid/Finance Coordinator someone referred to as an “angel in disguise”. She made the transition for my mother going on Medicaid so much less daunting due to her dedication, expertise, professionalism, understanding, loving caring and supportive disposition. Her genuine passion to want to help and give her very best for both the patient and those that she came in contact with did not go unnoticed. Veronica did her job and service very well and definitely one of the assets at The Grove of Valhalla Rehabilitation and Nursing Center!
This review is for the long term nursing facility at the Grove in Valhalla, NY. They hide all the long term residence upstairs in the disgusting ward 2 North. The rooms and floors are filthy. As soon as you walk in you can smell the urine and fecese stained carpeting. The staff only does the minimal necessary care for the residents if that. There is no water available in the rooms except for the bathroom sinks which most residents can't access anyway. The staff doesn't even try to hide the fact that they are disinterested or even care about anything. Lots of lip service with absolutely no resolve to problems. I know most of the profits are in rehab downstairs but they are getting over $12,000 a month for each long term resident. It's disgusting and immoral the way these people live up there. Of course, there are a few exceptions to the staff but all the decent staff members leave eventually. You can't close your eyes to this abuse.
the care and nursing attention my mom received at the grove was very good, nurse's Gloria and Adjoa, and staff were kind and knowledgeable. the aides were wonderful, particularly ruby and the 2 Rebecca's . the pt&ot staff were very experienced and great with the patients as I observed it and I was there every day for 2 months with my mom's rehab. ari the consierge was forthcoming and very helpful along with all the admin. staff. the grove is admittedly a work in progress but the staff is certainly up to the task! Do not come here if you need any type of wound care or medical care. My mother ended up here after abdominal exploratory surgery. She required a wound vac for her recovery. Upon her admission to the Grove, it was obvious to my family that the wound vac was not working. The purpose of it is to keep the wound dry and we could see no fluid was accumulating. The staff ignored my family's concerns for 3 entire days. On the third day, a nurse agreed to change the dressing (which had been changed every 2 days in the hospital). The wound was filled with fluid and leaking everywhere. For the next 3 days, the alarm on the wound vac machine would go off for 4 hours at a time. A nurse told my family this indicated that the machine was not working properly, but no staff addressed the issue. At this point, I sent a written complaint. This finally caused the administration to step in. We were informed that the staff required training on wound care. Even after the "training" occurred, issues persisted with the wound care and machine. An actual doctor didn't even look at the wound for at least 9 days. Then, he had concerns over sloughing or dead cell build up, which could have been prevented had the wound vac been appropriately attached and functioning. A nurse tried to tell us the wound had been like that when my mom first arrived, but she later admitted that she hadn't actually looked at the wound. My father spent all day every day trying to oversee the wound care and management. My mother developed a terrible cough. She had a history of lung collapse and pneumonia but the staff ignored her "common cold" per the doctor until she developed a high fever and was having trouble breathing. They ordered a chest x-ray and it took days for the x-ray to occur. Then, when they finally did the x-ray, the computers were down so they couldn't view the results. They had put her on oxygen to help her breathe, but they kept running out of oxygen and the tanks were frequently empty. My father had to keep checking and alert the staff there was no oxygen. It turns out she had pneumonia and likely RSV. They attempted to give her iv antibiotics, but the staff had trouble with the iv. It fell out at one point. At another point, there was blood in it and they couldn't figure out how to get the iv working. Then, the wound vac machine actually broke and the staff didn't know how long it would take to get the part that was needed to fix it. The doctor did not appear to have ever reviewed her medical records, and her daily medication as per the hospital discharge was ignored. As one example, she had been on blood pressure medicine, but they didn't give it to her so her blood pressure started spiking. If my dad had not been there all day every day, with knowledgeable of her medications and medical needs, I am afraid to think what would have happened. It is so upsetting that a place like this can continue to take patients when the staff clearly does not have the skillset to handle wound care and other medical issues, especially when the website is such a glowing advertisement for it.
Nursing care is poor at best, staff is untrained, angry and indifferent to residents and families. I did not think it was possible, but the care has worsen since the new owners took over.
Do not be fooled by the new fancy lobby and wonderful talk by the administrative staff, the care is substandard and at times dangerous.
Poor staffing levels, chaotic, disorganized and most of the time it is unsafe.
Administration is clearly not in control or know what they are doing, sad to think these people have the lives of others in their hands………
This place should be closed down
Well the rehabilitation part is awesome. If your parent or love one could be a walk in then you are good to go. If not stay away.
If your love one has no voice and can't tell you what is going on then you are in trouble. You need to go at different time to see what going on.
1. Nursing Staff 1 nurse to 25 patients on each side. CNA do the best they can but they have some that have no clue.
2. Activities is patients in wheel chairs in front of the tv while the can's do they work for the day. They don't talk to them it is sad.
3. Rec room church, sundays they have donuts, coffee and family entertain them.
4. It is a beautiful facility but if you can find the quack doctor good luck with that.
5. If the patient can't move they won't do anything with them they rot in that bed.
6. Head staff Abe is more urgent with working a dog then taking care of your needs.
7. Parking lot is dark lights are limited. Most have car to get around.
Think four times before you take your love one here.
1. Rehab is awesome--dedicated staff.
2. Food is Delicious
3. Rehab outside on nice days

DO NOT PUT ANYONE THERE THIS PLACE IS THE WORST DIRTY FOOD IS TERRIBLE THE PEOPLE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THE WORST MY DAD DIED THERE..
I wouldn't send my dog to this facility. Non nursing staff administering medication. Their rehab is nill to nothing. Family is not allowed into the rehab room. My dad was there following a stroke. We left after three days and got him into Burke Rehab in White Plains, NY. Thank God!!!!
Bathrooms not handicap accessible, do not provide safe care, staff go to lunch at the same time leaving pts alone, administrators do not return calls or respond to complaints
Food is absolutely horrible. After being paid $400 a day per patient, Physical Therapy Dept. too cheap to buy an $11 gait belt to put around a patient's waist to help them walk. In an undignified way they instead pull the person up and drag them by the back of their pants.
There is no doctor on site or on call either on weekends. If a patient becomes seriously ill they are in danger. Twice had to insist to facility supervisor that a family member be sent to the hospital rather than "waiting until the doctor comes back on Monday" they would have been dead by then.
Because it is a new facility with beautiful grounds you think you are sending your family member to a good place. NOT TRUE.
Care of my loved ones everyday needs was at times poor. Long wait times to get help going to bathroom. Bathroom needed a good cleaning as well as the floor in room. Staff at times not willing to be helpful. Took three days to fix broken headboard.
