Review of Rockville Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center, LLC

If I could give a rating of less than one star, I would. If you ask me why, I would need several pages to respond. I pray every night for my mom's safety and well-being as the staff do not inspire confidence in their ability to care for my mother nor the other patients that call out for assistance. Several of the aides are borderline abusive in their tone and language when addressing patients - this in my presence! Imagine my absence! The "call button" for help? The aides consider this a "suggested response" on their part. Mom is a high risk fall victim with a bed alarm. That alarm can ring anywhere from 3-5 minutes before someone will meander down the corridor to see if she has fallen or is in need of assistance. Meds? Mom's hospital release orders indicated one medication at the top of the page and at the bottom of the page clearly written were the words, "adverse reaction to this medication - DO NOT ADMINISTER-" My mom was given a dose of the INCORRECT medication, which compromised her care. When questioned, the nurse and the doctor both admitted that they "never read the entire report and the information was written at the bottom". Hence, they were "not responsible" for the incorrect medication they gave to her. The facility is short staffed - It is heartbreaking to see and hear patients languishing day after day, night after night while the aides try to care for everyone. Mom has dementia and unless a family member is with her, she will not get the help she needs to help her eat, get a drink of water, cut up her food, etc. When I asked the staff their plan for mom, one of the aides said all she had to do was "push the call button". The call button that was dangling on the floor? I asked? The one she can't reach and no one bothers to put within her grasp? Supplies? I had to ask twice for a blanket because they weren't sure they would be able to get one, and when I was given the blanket, I was told, "you are lucky, you got the last one!" This in the middle of the winter!. On my mom's second night she received the wrong tray - the previous guest had been moved across the hall… Despite the fact that I had opened the tray and begun feeding my mom from it, the aide whisked it out of my hands, capped it, and delivered it to the correct guest despite my telling them that my mom had already "touched the food". Someone failed to update the room change and alert the kitchen as such. It took me 3 days to get them to correct the spelling of my mother's name on the door and on her patient chart. The plus side for this place? The physical therapy department is capable, professional and optimistic. This is translating into my mother regaining her ability to walk again. In summary, unless you can sit by your loved one's side and attend to their daily needs and be their voice, limit yourself to the physical therapy part only!
