Sapphire Nursing at Meadow Hill Newburgh, New York 12550

My 100 year old mother is at Sapphire now (1/8/18) and although it is rundown, do not judge a book by its cover. I think the nurses, aides, rehab PT/OT staff are great. They care about my mother's progress, they support her, they always get back to me if I call, and in general, I find them to be as helpful as they can. My mother was in another facility that "looked pretty" about a year ago, and I did'nt even know who her nurses were….no personal attention……so for those who are not giving Sapphire a 5 star rating, I think the staff is much more important as to where you put your loved one, rather then how beautiful the place is. And it is kept clean.

Terrible place to send a love one, staff is not properly trained nor do they truly care. Most patients are in a wheelchair including my grandfather who is in there for a short stay and is suppose to work on his balance and strength. Only works on it once maybe twice a day for a few minutes with his physical therapist and the rest is spent in his room in a wheelchair. But when you need to keep a good rating and no falls keeping people in wheelchairs hinders them. Seriously though think twice before going to this place, the awards got me too.

I am truly shocked at the conditions of that place and the care given. It is so disheartning to know that these are sick elderly individuals who are living in these horrid conditions. If you are looking for a place for a family member please heed my words and do not leave them there you will lose as much sleep as I do.

THE FOOD IS AWFUL, THE SILVERWARE IS DIRTY, NEVER GET WHAT YOU

ASK FOR ON THE MENU YOU FILL OUT. 98% OF NURSES ARE GOOD, 85% OF

THE AIDS ARE GOOD. I FOUND BUGS IN MY ROOM AND BED. THE MAIN HALLWAY IS CARPETED AND SMELLS AWFUL DUE TO RESIDENTS NOT TAKEN

TO THE BATHROOM BEFORE LINE UP FOR THE DINNING ROOM. THE P.T STAFF

IS GOOD. IF YOU DONT HAVE DEMENTIA YOU CAN SPEAK UP BUT THOSE RESIDENTS WITH IT DON'T AND THAT'S NOT HELPING ANY SITUATIONS TO BE RESOLVED.

Take your senior family member somwhere else. The rehab dept is more like a large room. I was threatened by staff there. The staff are at times rude, and at best oblivious to the actual needs of their residents. I have never seen so much substandard care in my life. The facility has a bad reputation among healthcare workers in the area, and typically staffs the place with the failures of other more reputable healthcare facilities. They often operate under a skeleton crew, with many staff commonly working 16 hour shifts, and often being mandated to do so. There where numerous abuse allegations during my time there. There are better places in the Hudson Valley for your loved one.
