Review of Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care & Rehab

My father was there several months for rehab after colon surgery. I called the social worker and nurse asking that they teach my father how to care for his colostomy bag and set up services for in home care when he got discharged. I live out of state and came to NY to pick him up when he got discharged. There were no services set up for him and the discharge paperwork stated no services were needed. He still did not know how to care for his bag. He said the nurses were impatient with him and didn't bother to teach him and each one had a different technique. He also had an infection that started when he was there and required that I take him to an infectious disease specialist because it was not responding to antibiotics. When I took him to his surgeon for a follow up visit, the surgeon's assistant was able to set up in home care for him immediately which included a nurse to teach him how to manage his bag, a home health aide, and continued physical therapy. Clearly he was eligible and needed the services. They just didn't do their job and submit a simple request. They are negligent for discharging him with no services and not knowing how to care for his condition.
