  • Harborage (The) North Bergen, New Jersey 07047

My mother was transferred to this hell hole after a stroke. Mom was there for fifteen days. She developed 4 intestinal infections. My mother could not eat. Yet she developed thrush. Mom also got 3 bedsores and aspiration pneumonia. Her so called rehabilitation was almost non existent. I kept telling everyone working there my mom was breathing very badly. NO ONE paid attention. Not the doctors, nurses, therapists none. Mom went into respiratory failure was sent to the er, then the hospital for 6 days. Then home with hospice to die.

The people working here think they know more then you do about your loved one.

The people working here come to work sick in fear of loosing there jobs if they use sick days.

I had a loved one almost killed 2 times because it took to long for them to figure out we the famly members were right and there was a problem.

I never saw anything about how they will never try too get your loved one off the veny even if it is posable. They never ween.

If you need to kill off someone fast to save money I would give this place 5 stars.

My Uncle was only there for 1 week, and it was a week from hell. A family member always had to be there, to make sure his needs were met. He was transfered from HUMC following a long stay there. He had bladder cancer and had a conduit which he was supposed to be taught how to care for it. He was confused and scared. He was awoken out of deep sleep on morning rounds which made him more confused and scared. There is a right and wrong way of waking a patient, obviously the Harborage needs to work on this area in a big way.

Upon admission, your facility was not prepared for the type of conduit he needed, had none at the facility, and a family member had to go back to HUMC for supplies, since his urine was leaking all over him. We also had a problem with a few nurses/aides. Their bedside manner left a lot to be diesired. This was reported immediately to the Administrator.

On a whole, I would never reccomend this facility for rehab or residency. I know these issues won't be addressed, that's just the way the system works. It's all about money. In hinesite this was the worst decission we made to put my uncle in your facility.

My dad went to Harborage for rehab after Hack. hospital. The day he was transported, the clothes he was wearing were thrown out. He was given a mattress with a guard that was comfortable. He was put on the 5th floor, the service was not good at all. The rehab is once a day if they get around to it, otherwise they don't do anything all day. The nursing asst. put the patient in a day room with a TV & all they do is sit there.

The Director Angel made my dad sit in urine, when I tried to speak to her, she talked down to me like I was one of her employees. I would never recom. this place to anyone, PLEASE TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE ELSEWHERE!

My dad was a young 85, he still drove, he was an amazing, educated, thoughtful man who donated $ to so many charities. He was suppose to go home in two weeks, but he never made it out. He was my world, I miss him every minute of every day.

I visit the facility often as one of my parents is a resident there. I have witnessed neglect and abuse. The aids are often over worked and under staffed. Patients lay in their urinated diapers for hours or request to be taken to the bathroom and have to wait an unacceptable long period of time before they are acknowledged. I have witnessed aids changing patient's wardrobe with very little care, they are rough and ignore the patient's cries. They are not being considerate of how fragile and painful their actions are, they are just doing their job. My parent was given dairy on a few occasions which he is allergic to. They merely explain that someone didn't realize it. This facility is owned by Palisades Hospital, the same hospital that patients go to when they have fallen and injured themselves. No reports of such incidents are ever reported so none of the families know that this facility has been careless in it's care. Currently, there is a very serious law suite against this facility involving a paralyzed woman who died in their care due to an aide abusing her. The abuse was caught on a nanny cam. I urge families to take this same approach and check out for yourselves how your family member is being treated when you're not watching. This message is not meant to hurt the facility, it is meant to inform families that abuse and neglect are common in most nursing homes. This one is no exception. Be aware!!
