My father was a patient at Westlake Health Campus for rehabilitation prior to having surgery for a aortic aneurysm. He was admitted on April 5 2017 and found deceased in the early morning hours on April 9 2017. His cause of death was listed as End Stage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease yet the surgeon performing the surgery evaluated my father and gave him the green light to proceed. The responding officer failed to report a hematoma with a large bruise around it on his left temple consisted with a fall or hitting his head, therefor no Medical Examiner was called in to investigate his death. The attending nurse also failed to mention in her report about the injury on my fathers temple. I'm currently having this investigated and wanted to warn others to watch their loved ones closely in this facility!

This is the BEST FACILITY in the area! My dad was at Westlake for two weeks while he was in rehab and it was a wonderful experience for both him and our family. First, when you walk in the door, you feel like your at a fancy hotel, not a nursing home. The decor is beautiful! They have several areas where family members can gather and do activities or just talk. My children personally enjoyed the pool table and the putt putt golf while they visited with grandpa. Second, the food is out of this world! I would sometimes purchase meals to eat with my dad, and each one was fantastic. The menu options were very diverse and if you don't like what's on the menu, they fix you whatever you want. Third, I couldn't believe how FRIENDLY everyone was. When my dad needed something, the employees there were happy to help. The staff was genuinely concerned for my dad and you could tell by the way they tended his needs. He mentioned to me SEVERAL times what a NICE place he was in, and several visiting family members said the same thing. I would HIGHLY recommend Westlake!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother has been a resident of Westlake for over 5 years and I am very happy with the care she receives. The staff is great!! I was recommended to Westlake by friends of mine who their mother was also a resident. I searched other nursing homes and so glad that I picked a great one!!!

Do not take your loved one to this facility. Would rather give negative stars. Our mother is there and needs help with eating. It takes her about five full minutes to eat a pudding cup. Not the fastest but not exactly feeding tube worthy. They said they don't have time to feed her so they want to do a feeding tube for their convenience. We hired a private nurse to feed her out of our own pocket, but they will not let them do it because they are not 'certified'. Staff is rude to other patients. One woman came up to get an apple off the desk at the nurses station. (fruit is put there for anyone to take.) They yelled at her and told here to quit taking the apples. She said she liked to have them for here guests, and they said "You don't have ANY GUESTS" (Can you imagine?) Maybe she was just lonely - especially if she hasn't any guests!

Anyway - attentive care is not given, which is key to any recovery. I recommed you go elsewhere.

My Mother in law has been at Westlake for 4 months now, going from rehab right into assisted living. The first thing we noticed is the pleasant atmosphere and lovely decor in this new facility - almost 1 year old now. In our experience the staff has been nothing but very friendly, cheerful and helpful. When our loved one has made special requests for something from the kitchen, it has always been brought to her with no problem. When she can at times be difficult and demanding, they handle her very well.

There are many social activities that happen at the "Town Square", a gathering place with piano and game table at one wing, pool table at another and refreshment bar in another. At other junctions in the halls they have comfortable sitting areas with a TV, computer, game table and wet bar for refreshments. There are also private rooms where families can gather for a dinner or social time. They have family days when your family can come for a lovely dinner and use one of those private rooms if you'd like. My children and grandchildren love going to the family dinners. There is an outside area with a golf green for put put golf and an area for a cook out. I believe another court has an area for gardening.

My Mother in law loves the Sunday worship service and sometimes goes to the Thursday Baptist gathering where she loves to play the piano. The best thing for our family is that she likes it at Westlake. She has made friends and keeps very busy. Sure, it's not like being in her own home, but she is happy there and that is what is important to us.

Some of the people that work there are great…..others have been awful at times leaving you with horrible memories that haunt you forever. Some are just truly wonderful..really care and you are happy when you see them there, because you feel all will be ok. But the ones that don"t care, or are so rude to you or will not listen or follow instructions…make life tough on everyone and makes you doubt everything else. The rotten apple spoils the barrel syndrome. Makes you so worried to leave your loved one at times. If they don't like you, for bringing issues up to them (sometimes you have to over and over!) they can really get testy and make trouble for you, which makes you feel so uncomfortable. (We shouldnt have to deal with the same things over and over, not our fault we have to keep requesting proper care) Makes you afraid to say anything, for fear what they will do. Having your loved one in someone else's hands is REALLY hard. Especially when things are done, that you would never do to your loved one. Really hard to watch happen. Better not complain either…if you do, they gang up on you and blame you for complaints. Gossip way too much!! No privacy. They don't like you talking to the staff to find out what is going on, and if they find it out, they yell at the staff not to tell you things….saying the staff person is not a "team" player- suppressing those who are trying to be honest with us. We would think we have the right to know what is going on in every detail about our loved one. Not the cleanest place in town, but hope for improvement. Problem is that no nursing home is the greatest. So you grin and bear what you can and try to protect your loved one the best you can. Advantage is to be close so you can pop in and out to keep an eye out, that is real important. Food is better than most places, but not consistently good. Must be short handed in the kitchen because meals are often served late and residents give up waiting and leave the dining room frustrated to have waited so long. Or they are fed late and then put right to bed. Bad idea for digestive systems! The group of guys there that are really friendly. Lots of change over in staff. Some are really super, but they dont seem always to stay long. Don't seem to have bed sores there, but they have ancient..crank beds that have really hard mattress to sleep on. Often lacking in supplies and needed equipment or they can't find it when needed. Repeated dehydration problems. Also they'd rather count weight than consider malnutrician issues. Elder care is one of the most difficult experiences you will ever experience. Wish we could come up with a better way to treat our elderly. A consultant in the State office once said to me….nursing homes need to remember it is not about them…..it is ALL about the resident and their families. GREAT POINT! SMART LADY-she gets it! Just keep hoping the nursing homes will some day! Now lets see what happens to us that we have made this very honest review…will keep you posted!
